Job Summary

The Senior Environmental Graphic Designer works closely with Institute stakeholders to create innovative and compelling signage, wayfinding systems, visual designs, building identification, donor recognition elements, school spirit graphics, and environmental installations that align with project objectives and the Georgia Tech brand identity. The Environmental Graphic Designer (EGD) combines graphic design expertise with a focus on developing effective wayfinding solutions that guide users through complex spaces, ensuring a clear and intuitive user experience.

Interacts on a consistent basis with architects, planning design & Construction professionals. Advises and counsels planning design and construction professionals. Supervises: NA

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 - Responsible for developing, maintaining, and enforcing environmental graphic design standards and guidelines, ensuring visual, verbal, and branding consistency across campus.

Job Duty 2 - Contracts with environmental graphic design consultants and signage vendors and reviews design documents and fabrication submittals for compliance during SD, DD, and CD phases.

Job Duty 3 - Reviews signage terminology, messaging, and nomenclature for consistency with campus standards and approved wayfinding frameworks.

Job Duty 4 - Creates digital prototypes and mockups to present design concepts, including budgeting, to Institute stakeholders for feedback and approval.

Job Duty 5 - Procures and oversees the fabrication and installation of two and three dimensional interior and exterior signage that identifies, directs, informs, and enhances the campus environment.

Job Duty 6 - Creates architectural floor plans, signage layouts, and message schedules to determine optimal signage placement.

Job Duty 7 - Reviews construction drawings (in-house and consultant-led) to ensure alignment with environmental graphics standards and campus objectives.

Job Duty 8 - Coordinates with the Archibus/Space Database team to ensure accurate room numbering and data alignment for new construction and renovation projects, supporting interior signage and wayfinding accuracy.

Job Duty 9 - Collaborates and coordinates with internal stakeholders, Georgia Tech affiliates, and external partners including GDOT, City of Atlanta, Midtown Alliance, Georgia Tech affiliates, consultants, and vendors to deliver cohesive and consistent environmental graphic solutions.

Job Duty 10 - Perform other duties as assigned.

Proposed Salary

Salary Range: $65,202.00- $95,000.00 Annually.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES

  • Ability to read and develop architectural plans and details related to environmental graphics
  • Ability to select appropriate materials and finishes for interior and exterior applications based on durability, maintenance, and visual performance
  • Ability to manage and budget multiple concurrent projects while coordinating with planners, architects, engineers, and campus partners

KNOWLEDGE

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current ADA accessibility standards and building code requirements, including recent updates related to digital interfaces and interactive wayfinding systems.
  • Knowledge of wayfinding principles, human-centered design, and environmental graphic systems
  • Maintains current knowledge of ADA accessibility requirements and evolving best practices for environmental graphics and wayfinding, and applies them consistently across campus projects

SKILLS

  • Maintains awareness of emerging trends, materials, technologies, and digital applications in environmental graphic design
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and presentation skills
