Position Summary

Concordia University invites applicants for the part-time position of Environmental, Health and Safety Assistant for the Buildings and Grounds Department. This is a part-time (>30 hours per week) position. This part-time, non-exempt position reports to the Director of Buildings and Grounds and is located on the Mequon Campus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain sprinkler and fire alarm systems through weekly testing, inspections and documentation of all tests and inspections
  • Test and maintain eyewash and showers on a monthly basis
  • Fire extinguishers are tested, maintained and inspected on a monthly basis
  • Exit lights and emergency lighting tested on a monthly basis. Repair as needed.
  • Organize and conduct training both online and in-person to all departments on campus
  • Inspection of hazardous waste on a weekly basis and make arrangement for proper disposal meeting federal standards
  • Tests and certify elevators on a monthly basis
  • Laboratory safety inspection is done every semester
  • Work with county and local official for pre-planning of any major incident that could occur
  • Maintain database of all safety equipment/inspections
  • Schedule mandatory testing of systems, (Fire Panels, Sprinkler)
  • Maintain inventory of safety equipment for B/G staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Computer usage with appropriate emphasis on software such as Microsoft office is necessary
  • A strong emphasis in communication skills should be required
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards along with other federal, state and local standards
  • Ability to work with all types of personalities
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to priorities work load
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory practices

Education and/or Training

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred. General knowledge of state and federal requirements pertaining to schools is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a part-time (<29.5 hours per week), non-exempt position. Starting wage may be determined upon education and/or experience. Benefits associated with this position include the Concordia Disability and Survivor plan and the Concordia Retirement plan, as well as a tuition waiver benefit.
