Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

The Science Team at Pride Health is supporting a multinational conglomerate Industry, which has an opening for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist in Maplewood, MN.

Important Details:

  • 12-month contract with a possibility to extend
  • Maplewood, MN- Onsite (5 days/week)
  • Monday-Friday (40 hours/week)
  • Pay range: $25-32/HR, depending on experience

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as EHS Contact for assigned divisions within client Center R&D community
  • Apply established EHS processes consistently and appropriately
  • Facilitate discussions with researchers about the R&D work taking place to identify risks and controls
  • Recognize and communicate when additional technical review, escalation, or leadership input is needed
  • Complete chemical exposure assessments
  • Complete personal protective equipment (PPE) assessments
  • Apply established tools to complete risk assessments and screenings on topics including combustible dust, lockout-tagout, and noise.
  • Serve as hazardous waste coordinator, including updating waste stream profiles for new materials, planning for lab clean-out days, and connecting researchers with guidance for miscellaneous waste types
  • Lead EHS inspections including sharing with researchers what to look for, ensuring all areas are complete and answering questions about resolving findings
  • Support EHS programs related to risk assessment and control, including facilitating respirator fit testing

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of environmental, health, and safety principles in laboratory, R&D, technical, or manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to apply established EHS processes, tools, and procedures consistently while recognizing when escalation or additional technical review is needed.
  • Basic knowledge of lab safety practices, PPE selection and/or hazardous waste management
  • Experience conducting or supporting risk assessments, hazard screenings, inspections, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Collaborative problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently while staying aligned with EHS team expectations and site processes.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and written
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple assigned activities, maintain documentation, and follow through on action items.

Minimum candidate qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Ideal disciplines include Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, or a related technical discipline.
  • Candidates with broader technical degrees may also be considered when paired with applicable EHS, laboratory, industrial hygiene, safety, environmental compliance, or related work experience.
