Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

Job Description

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist supports, develops, and continuously improves EHS performance across a dynamic operational environment. This role focuses on building and enhancing EHS compliance and risk management processes, driving understanding and engagement, and integrating EHS into daily operations. The EHS Specialist develops and executes EHS compliance programs in alignment with global EHS policies, ensures adherence to regulatory and internal standards, and partners closely with stakeholders to implement best-in-class methods for achieving compliance and performance improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of environmental, health, and safety compliance programs in alignment with global EHS policies and standards.
  • Develop, communicate, and deliver EHS training to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal standards, and business needs.
  • Promote EHS awareness throughout the organization through effective employee communication and active participation initiatives.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for safety and environmental issues, providing guidance and support to operational teams and leadership.
  • Conduct investigations of working conditions to prevent occupational diseases and industrial health hazards.
  • Support regulated waste management activities, including consolidation, inspections, and proper handling procedures.
  • Perform compliance tasks such as stormwater sampling, waste inspections, chemical inventory reviews, and life safety audits.
  • Execute compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and customer requirements, ensuring timely and accurate implementation.
  • Support and conduct EHS audits, develop action plans to resolve findings, and implement corrective and preventive measures promptly and effectively.
  • Perform risk assessments, including Job Hazard Analyses, for new processes, equipment, and tasks to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly EHS metrics and report them to onsite management teams and corporate reporting systems.
  • Support management in ensuring compliance with corporate EHS program expectations and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures, including ergonomic improvements, to reduce workplace injuries and exposures.
  • Establish and manage the safety committee to drive engagement, communication, and continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Drive continual improvement efforts to reduce site safety and environmental risks through proactive initiatives and process enhancements.
  • Support site stand-up meetings, safety committees, and floor inspections to reinforce EHS expectations and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into operational planning and decision-making.
  • Maintain confidentiality in matters involving security, personnel issues, and sensitive EHS information.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field, or relevant equivalent experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in EHS support, preferably in warehousing or a similar operational environment.
  • Knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations, including familiarity with OSHA standards, specifically 29 CFR 1910.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and Job Hazard Analyses for processes, equipment, and tasks.
  • Experience supporting EHS activities in manufacturing plants or similar industrial settings.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel in a professional capacity for documentation, reporting, and analysis.
  • Ability to interpret and apply EHS regulations and internal standards to operational environments.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in matters involving security and personnel issues.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively deliver EHS training and promote EHS awareness across the organization.
  • Capability to manage multiple EHS tasks, audits, and compliance activities in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with environmental health and safety programs in warehousing, manufacturing, or industrial operations.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and best practices for hazard identification and mitigation.
  • Experience with regulated waste management, including inspections and consolidation activities.
  • Familiarity with stormwater sampling, waste inspections, chemical inventory management, and life safety audits.
  • Experience establishing or participating in safety committees and leading EHS-related meetings.
  • Ability to recommend ergonomic improvements and other risk mitigation measures.
  • Strong relationship-building skills to collaborate with stakeholders and influence leadership on EHS matters.
  • Flexibility to work any shift based on business needs, including days, nights, and weekends.

Work Environment

This role operates in an active industrial and warehousing environment that may include manufacturing plant settings and support for a low Earth orbit satellite system operation. The position requires the ability to lift up to 49 pounds and to stand or walk for up to 10 hours during a shift. The opening is for a back half nights schedule, working four 10-hour shifts from Wednesday through Saturday, with typical hours from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. The environment emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement, with regular floor inspections, stand-up meetings, and safety committee activities. EHS tools, metrics reporting systems, and standard office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel are used routinely to document, track, and improve EHS performance.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
