Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Schedule:

  • 20 hours every other week OR
  • 10 hours per week

Role Overview

Seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to support a specialized manufacturing operation focused on high‑performance composite materials for aerospace and defense applications. This role will provide part‑time, hands‑on EHS leadership in a regulated, safety‑critical environment involving advanced materials, hazardous chemicals, and high‑temperature processes.


Scope of Work

Researches, develops, and manufactures high‑performance composite materials for aerospace and defense applications, including lightweight prepregs, resins, adhesives, and hybrid composite systems. Supports commercial and military aircraft programs with materials engineered for extreme temperatures and severe service environments, providing formulation, testing, qualification, and scalable production under rigorous aerospace quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain comprehensive EHS programs aligned with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with hazard communication, chemical safety, hazardous waste, and emergency response requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations, driving corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support R&D, pilot operations, and manufacturing scale‑up from an EHS compliance perspective.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, quality, and leadership teams to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Manage documentation, reporting, training, and regulatory interfacing activities.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred in regulated manufacturing environments.

Experience

  • 7-10+ years of EHS experience in aerospace, chemical manufacturing, composite materials, polymers, or advanced materials production.
  • Proven experience supporting high‑temperature processes, resins, solvents, carbon fibers, and hazardous chemicals.
  • Prior leadership experience managing EHS programs in a regulated, quality‑driven manufacturing environment.

Regulatory & Compliance Expertise

  • Expert‑level knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and applicable state EHS regulations.
  • Strong experience with HAZCOM, OSHA PSM (if applicable), EPA air/wastewater compliance, RCRA hazardous waste, and DOT hazardous materials shipping.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 or equivalent EHS management systems.

Technical & Safety Competencies

  • Industrial hygiene fundamentals, including exposure monitoring, ventilation, and PPE programs.
  • Chemical safety management, SDS review, and toxic material handling.
  • Experience managing fire protection, combustible dust, thermal hazards, and emergency response plans.
  • Incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • CIH - Certified Industrial Hygienist
  • CSP - Certified Safety Professional
  • CHMM - Certified Hazardous Materials Manager

Leadership & Business Skills

  • Strong collaboration skills with operations, engineering, quality, and R&D teams.
  • Experience delivering EHS training and leading audits and inspections.
  • Excellent documentation, reporting, and regulatory communication skills.
  • Ability to balance production objectives with safety and compliance priorities.
