Environmental Health & Safety Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, programs, processes, procedures, and systems to ensure ProMed is a safe and healthy work environment. The EHS Manager complies with all applicable regulations pertaining to Environmental, Health, and Safety and eliminates or minimizes EHS risks to the employees, the Company, the environment, and the communities in which we do business. This position operates under minimal guidance from management or senior staff. The EHS Manager ensures ProMed's brand, philosophy, systems, policies, and procedures are properly implemented and observed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
• Proactively works to minimize risk and prevent workplace injuries; identifying opportunities for continual improvement and spearheading projects and initiatives, including leadership of cross-functional teams
• Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company
• Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics
• Conducts EHS compliance audits, self-assessments, and inspections throughout the facilities; takes corrective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable local, national, and state regulations, as well as conform with internal policies and program requirements
• Monitors compliance with safety procedures
• Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings
• Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
• Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required
• Provides managerial support and subject matter expertise that ensures appropriate EHS systems and resources are in place
• Serves and chairs the Safety Committee and facility Emergency Response team, including chemical and medical.
• Tracks key EHS metrics and communicates status to management on a regular basis
• Drives execution of tactical and strategic initiatives in order to eliminate hazards and reduce or eliminate the associated risks
• Leads incident investigation and after-action reviews with a focus on root cause analysis, corrective and preventative action
• Identifies and implements a comprehensive education plan to continually advance technical skills and personal development as well as enhancing organizational effectiveness.
• The employee is expected to develop acceptable work habits, skills, knowledge, and contributions consistent with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager position level.
• This job also requires performing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field
• Five (5) years of related experience
• Working knowledge in an industrial or manufacturing setting
• Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
• Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
• Ability to communicate in English (verbal and written)
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines

Preferred:

• Master's Degree desirable.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and/or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) preferred
• Experience working in the pharmaceutical, medical device or electronics industries
• Experience working in controlled environment, cleanroom manufacturing, or quality management system-controlled setting
• Ergonomic risk reduction experience in manufacturing, laboratory or office setting
• Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazardous Materials General Awareness (Title 49 CFR, Part 172, Subpart H) certification
• Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification, RCRA Hazardous Waste Management (Title 40 CFR, Part 265) certification
• Emergency incident command experience
• Ability to communicate in Spanish or Hmong

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the principal roles and responsibilities of this job.

• Exposure to heated/air conditioned, ventilated facilities with florescent lighting;
• Exposure to building where a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, and/or operation of equipment;
• The noise level in the work environment is usually minor;
• Duties are performed indoors;

PHYSICAL, SENSORY, COGNITIVE & NEUROLOGICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job:

• Ability to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
• The employee may be required to stoop, bend, squat, kneel, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see and use repetitive motions;
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus;
• The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with internal and external people;
• Employee moves about the building and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks, etc.;
• Employee may have duties involving walking on even or uneven surfaces;
• Employee occasionally to frequently use a whiteboard, which can require grasping whiteboard pens, reaching at, below, or above shoulder height and may require trunk or neck rotation to look back;
• Employee may use computers, overhead projectors, TV, and other work-related equipment, which may require an approximately 25+ pound force to push or pull equipment;
• It is necessary to grasp and manipulate pens, markers, scissors, staplers, etc. occasionally to frequently.
• Employee must see and hear on a continuous basis as well as speak frequently;

Position varies from standing, sitting, walking, etc. On some occasions it may be necessary to move quickly, run, etc. over smooth or uneven surfaces.
