About the Position

The Plant EHS Specialist position implements, administers, and monitors company Environmental, Health, and Safety programs for the plant to ensure work conditions and practices meet all applicable regulations and policies. This position partners with Plant Leadership, Operations, Quality, Maintenance, HR, and Engineering to support safety compliance and continuous improvement on the plant floor.

Essential Functions: Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time.

• Program Maintenance: Implements and maintains safety and health programs to eliminate workplace risks and hazards.
• Environmental Reporting: Tracks, maintains, and submits mandatory environmental records and regulatory compliance reporting.
• Compliance Audits: Conducts daily and periodic safety inspections, hazard assessments, and facility compliance audits.
• Training Coordination: Delivers and tracks safety and occupational health training programs for all site employees.
• Incident Investigation: Administers the accident reporting system and investigates incidents to identify root causes and mitigation steps.
• Recordkeeping: Maintains plant records for occupational health, safety training logs, certifications, and environmental data.
• Hazard Correction: Tracks and ensures the timely completion of corrective actions for identified unsafe conditions or audit findings.
• Industrial Hygiene: Performs or coordinates evaluations of employee exposure to noise, dust, gases, and fumes.
• Agency Interaction: Assists outside regulatory organizations during site audits and serves as a primary compliance contact.
• Floor Presence: Executes multi-layered risk predictions, conducts behavior observations, and delivers frequent safety communications.

• Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of current OSHA, EPA, and local EHS regulations within a manufacturing environment.
• Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze data, review new processes, and inspect machinery for potential safety and environmental risks.
• Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database tracking applications.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to and training plant floor employees.
• Problem Solving: Practical problem solver proficient in root cause analysis tools to implement effective solutions.
• Schedule Flexibility: Provides occasional support for plant operations on weekends as part of the facility coverage rotation.
• Collaboration: Partners with EHS peers at other sites to maintain consistent corporate safety standards.
• Travel: Occasional travel may be required for regional meetings or corporate training.

Education and/or Experience:

• 4-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Risk Management Safety, or Engineering, or equivalent experience preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a safety position desired; manufacturing experience preferred.

Employees are required to conduct their work in a safe and legal manner, according to all GMP food safety standards as well as following any safety protocols. Employees must be willing to be responsible for their safety and health as well as the safety and health of all employees, vendors, and visitors.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

This position requires working in both manufacturing and office environments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone along with reaching. Specific vision abilities include close vision requirements due to computer work. Moderate noise, ability to work in a confined area, and ability to sit at a computer for an extended period of time are also included. Must be able to effectively communicate and work in a dynamic environment. You may also be on your feet for several hours a day and may be exposed to a variety of physical demands that require you to lift heavy objects, climb stairs, exert energy, bend, twist and squat and use tools and equipment in an indoor production environment that has a high level of food dust and limited climate control while wearing PPE.
