position summary
Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking an Environmental Inspector for a 34-mile electric transmission line project in western Wisconsin. The position will be field based in Trempealeau or Buffalo counties for the duration of the project's construction phase, which is anticipated to begin in late November 2026 and last through at least 2027 with possible extension into 2028. Day-to-day responsibilities will focus on documenting compliance inspections, including stormwater inspections, to verify compliance with requirements in state and federal permit authorizations, as well as the Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) Written Order conditions issued by the Public Services Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW).
The work environment will consist of remote field settings, which may include work in adverse weather conditions, and in some instances, irregular and/or steep terrain. Workload is expected to be 60 hours per week from Monday through Saturday. Overtime will be paid at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for all hours worked over 40 in a work week.
Compensation for this position starts at $45.00/hour but may be higher based on qualifications and experience. Per diem and mileage reimbursements will follow the General Services Administration (GSA) rates for lodging and meals and incidental expenses (M&IE), and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) standard rates, respectively. Benefits will be provided, including medical insurance, and a 401(K) match.
Our field staff are at the forefront of delivering successful projects. This role offers the opportunity to be a key member of a long-term transmission line project, gaining hands-on experience with environmental compliance, stormwater inspections, and construction monitoring while working independently in the field and collaborating with a team that values quality, professionalism, and practical problem-solving.
