American Battery Technology Company (ABTC) provides technical development and commercialization of domestic, sustainable sourcing of critical battery materials through lithium-ion battery recycling and battery metal extraction technologies for use in batteries that power electric cars, grid storage applications, and consumer electronics and tools. Our first of kind systems produce commercial-scale battery materials that are sold into the battery manufacturing supply chain.

The Environmental Manager leads environmental compliance, permitting, and program execution across two hazardous waste recycling facilities and one mining operation. This role serves as the primary environmental subject matter expert, partnering with operations, engineering, legal, and regulators to maintain compliance, support expansion, reduce risk, and improve environmental performance across multiple sites. 

Requirements

  • Lead environmental permitting and compliance activities across recycling and mining operations, including air, water, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous waste, and mining-related permits. 
  • Interpret and implement applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, and serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and inspectors. 
  • Oversee hazardous waste and recycling compliance, including waste determinations, storage, labeling, manifesting, shipments, and recycling legitimacy requirements. 
  • Manage environmental monitoring, recordkeeping, and regulatory reporting, including emissions inventories, hazardous waste reporting, TRI, stormwater, and related submissions. 
  • Support mine environmental programs such as water management, reclamation planning, erosion control, habitat protection, and environmental assessments. 
  • Develop procedures, training, audits, corrective actions, and management systems that strengthen compliance and continuous improvement. 
  • Lead environmental incident response, investigations, notifications, and support spill prevention and emergency planning. 
  • Partner cross-functionally with site leadership, operations, engineering, legal, and EHS teams to integrate environmental requirements into projects and operations. 
  • Travel between operational sites and work in industrial environments, including processing facilities and mine sites. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical field. 
  • 7+ years of environmental compliance experience in hazardous waste management, recycling, mining, chemical manufacturing, or other heavy industrial operations. 
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental permits, inspections, audits, and regulatory agency interactions. 
  • Strong knowledge of RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, DOT hazardous materials requirements, and mining-related environmental regulations. 
  • Experience with environmental monitoring programs, compliance reporting, technical writing, and project management. 
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and provide practical environmental guidance in dynamic operating environments. 
  • Multi-site support experience preferred. 
  • Professional certifications such as PE, CHMM, or ISO 14001 lead auditor experience are preferred.

Expected Pay Range

$100k - $140k USD per year.

Compensation for this position may vary based on a number of individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The total compensation package may also include additional components such as bonus, equity, and benefits, which will be detailed upon offer of employment.
