POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a motivated entry-to-mid level Environmental Monitor to support construction compliance monitoring for infrastructure and environmental projects in the South San Francisco Bay Area. This field-based role focuses on ensuring adherence to environmental permit conditions, stormwater regulations, groundwater monitoring, and related compliance requirements during active construction. The position is initially temporary (9–12 months) with strong potential for conversion to a full-time role with benefits.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Perform daily construction compliance monitoring to ensure adherence to environmental permit conditions, mitigation measures, and project-specific requirements.
· Conduct groundwater water quality compliance monitoring, including well sampling and field parameter measurements.
· Serve as construction stormwater delegate, performing site inspections, BMP maintenance checks, and stormwater compliance monitoring per SWPPP requirements.
· Document compliance activities through detailed daily/weekly reports, photo documentation, and field logs.
· Collect water samples in accordance with sampling plans and QA/QC protocols for laboratory analysis (groundwater, surface water, stormwater).
· Coordinate with construction teams, project managers, and regulatory agencies as needed to address compliance issues.
· Support environmental permit compliance tracking and assist with preparation of compliance documentation.
· Maintain accurate records and contribute to project closeout documentation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree (4-year) in Environmental Science, Biology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, Botany, Fisheries Biology, Forestry, or a closely related technical field.
· 1–3 years of relevant professional experience in environmental monitoring, construction compliance, stormwater management, or water quality sampling.
· Valid California driver’s license and clean driving record with willingness and ability to travel to project sites 5 days per week.
· Strong field skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in outdoor construction environments.
· Familiarity with environmental regulations, stormwater BMPs, and basic water quality sampling techniques.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and team coordination.
· Bay Area residency preferred (East Bay or South Bay candidates strongly encouraged to apply).
COMPENSATION & EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
This is an hourly temporary position paying $25–$33 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. The initial term is 9–12 months with excellent potential for conversion to a full-time permanent role with benefits. The work is primarily field-based in the South San Francisco Bay Area.
