We are seeking an experienced Environmental Permitting Project Manager to support the development and delivery of next-generation hyperscale data center campuses. This role will be responsible for leading environmental permitting and regulatory compliance efforts throughout the full project lifecycle, from site selection and feasibility through construction and commissioning.

The ideal candidate will serve as a key liaison between developers, engineering teams, environmental consultants, contractors, utility providers, and regulatory agencies to ensure projects remain compliant, on schedule, and positioned for successful execution.

This position is remote, with flexible location options. However, there is a preference for candidates based in Indiana as the sites are located across the Central and Western US

Occasional travel to site locations may be required as business needs arise, the role will otherwise remain remote.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage environmental due diligence and environmental permitting acquisition and approvals.
  • Support compliance activities during site acquisition, design, and construction.
  • Responsible for the development and on-time delivery of environmental permits to support construction of data centers.
  • Regularly collaborate with key Microsoft stakeholders, including legal, design, construction, and operations teams.

Skills:

  • Strong Background in environmental permitting and compliance
  • Strong background in project management
  • Advanced knowledge of environmental permitting programs, remedial investigations, remediation strategies and execution, site conceptual models, and site management plans.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of environmental permitting and approvals experience, including management of environmental impact assessments, acquisition of permits, new region regulatory reviews, cultural and ecological surveys and approvals, and environmental programs development.
  • 5+ years conducting environmental due diligence and risk assessments for greenfield and brownfield sites, including environmental site assessments and remediation.
  • Experience with mission critical facilities or large-scale construction projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain cross-functional and positive working relationships with internal and external teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and high standards for quality of deliverables.
  • Strong background in project management and the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to drive desired outcomes.
  • Specific knowledge of environmental permitting programs and requirements including, but not limited to air quality, threatened and endangered, USACE/404 permitting, SPCC, cultural resources, etc.
  • Working knowledge of remedial investigations, remediation strategies and execution, site conceptual models and site management plans.
  • Ability to develop permitting timelines, and identify permitting risks and mitigation
