Job Title: Environmental Project Manager

Job Description

The Environmental Project Manager oversees the full lifecycle of environmental remediation and development projects, ensuring high-quality delivery, strong financial performance, and strict adherence to health, safety, and regulatory requirements. This role leads small to large, complex projects, provides technical and strategic guidance, and partners closely with field teams, clients, regulators, and other stakeholders to deliver sustainable, compliant, and effective environmental solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of environmental projects with a strong focus on project delivery, quality, financial performance, and health and safety.
  • Lead small to large, complex environmental and remediation projects, ensuring execution meets project, client, and regulatory objectives.
  • Hold primary responsibility for the entire project lifecycle, including cost estimating, proposal preparation, scheduling, subcontracting, resourcing, execution, and financial management.
  • Demonstrate strong technical and business competence and maintain extensive knowledge of environmental codes, regulations, and best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with field teams to provide oversight, enforce health and safety protocols, and ensure safe and compliant field operations.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, partners, subcontractors, agencies, regulators (including OER and NYSDEC), and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coach, mentor, and support staff to ensure high-quality technical execution and ongoing professional growth within the team.
  • Plan and manage complex field investigation programs, including soil, groundwater, and air investigations, as well as pilot testing and data collection efforts.
  • Lead complex technical evaluations and design efforts, including the development of remedial action plans, system installation strategies, operations and maintenance (O&M) approaches, and permitting documentation.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record when applicable, taking responsibility for technical deliverables and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage large-scale remediation project finances, including budgeting, forecasting, tracking, and reporting to ensure projects meet financial targets.
  • Ensure that all project work aligns with applicable OER, NYSDEC, and Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) requirements.
  • Support the management and leadership of an increasing portfolio of projects by providing strong project leadership and organizational oversight.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct experience managing environmental programs and projects involving OER, DEC, and the Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP).
  • Professional registration or certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG), as applicable.
  • Proven ability to independently lead project teams and manage large-scale remediation project finances.
  • Broad environmental engineering consulting experience spanning the entire project lifecycle, from planning and design through implementation and closeout.
  • Demonstrated competency with soil, groundwater, and air treatment technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental codes, regulations, and permitting requirements, including those applicable to NYC and NYS agencies.
  • Experience working with OER, NYSDEC, and related regulatory agencies.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with clients, regulators, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to enforce and promote rigorous health and safety protocols in field and office settings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • NYC and NYS agency experience, particularly with environmental and development-related approvals and processes.
  • Experience with Brownfield projects and the Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP).
  • Experience in real estate development-related environmental consulting and project management.
  • Strong business acumen and financial management skills for tracking project budgets and performance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and developing project staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail across technical and administrative tasks.

This is a Permanent position based out of Brooklyn, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $200000.00/yr.
