Job Title: Environmental Project Manager

Job Description

This role leads the planning and delivery of environmental projects from inception through completion, with a strong focus on quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and health and safety. The Environmental Project Manager oversees a portfolio of small to large, complex remediation and environmental engineering projects, ensuring they meet client, regulatory, and internal performance objectives. The position requires deep technical expertise, strong business acumen, and the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day project management activities with a focus on on-time project delivery, quality control, financial performance, and adherence to health and safety standards.
  • Lead small to large, complex environmental projects, ensuring execution meets project goals, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong technical and business competence, including extensive knowledge of environmental codes, regulations, and permitting processes.
  • Hold primary responsibility for the full project lifecycle, including cost estimating, proposal preparation, scheduling, subcontracting, resourcing, execution, and financial management.
  • Collaborate closely with field teams, providing oversight, guidance, and direction to ensure safe and efficient field operations.
  • Enforce health and safety protocols in all field and office activities, promoting a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, partners, subcontractors, agencies, regulators (including OER and NYSDEC), and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coach, mentor, and support staff to ensure high-quality project execution and to foster professional growth and development within the team.
  • Plan and manage complex field investigation programs, including coordination of field activities and pilot testing data collection.
  • Lead complex technical evaluations and design efforts, including development of remedial action plans, system installation strategies, operations and maintenance (O&M) approaches, and permitting documentation.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record, as applicable, for remediation and environmental engineering projects.
  • Oversee and manage soil, groundwater, and air treatment projects, including Brownfield and other remediation initiatives, ensuring they meet regulatory and technical standards.
  • Independently lead project teams and manage large-scale remediation project finances, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Coordinate with NYC and NYS agencies to ensure projects comply with applicable regulations and program requirements, including OER, DEC, and the Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP).

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related environmental consulting work experience.
  • At least 3 years of direct experience managing programs or projects involving OER, DEC, and the Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP).
  • Professional registration or certification (PE or PG), as applicable.
  • Proven ability to independently lead project teams and manage large-scale remediation project finances.
  • Broad environmental engineering consulting experience spanning the entire project lifecycle, from planning and design through implementation and closeout.
  • Demonstrated competency with soil, groundwater, and air treatment technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental codes, regulations, and permitting requirements, particularly in New York City and New York State.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, regulators, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Solid understanding of Brownfield and remediation projects, including environmental science and engineering aspects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with NYC and NYS agencies, including OER and NYSDEC.
  • Experience with Brownfield, soil, groundwater, and remediation projects in an urban environment.
  • Background in environmental science or environmental engineering beyond core degree requirements.
  • Ability to prepare detailed cost estimates, project proposals, and schedules for complex environmental projects.
  • Experience coordinating and managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop junior staff.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic, growing firm with an influx of new projects and evolving client needs.

This position is based in an office environment in Brooklyn, NY, with a requirement to be in the office five days per week. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $200000.00/yr.
