  • Conducts physical field work executing multiple grant work plans in the protection of tribal lands and natural resources.
  • Take surface and groundwater samples and send them to the laboratory for analysis.
  • Reviews water quality data and uploads data to the EPA database.
  • Conducts site monitoring and maintenance, including tree trimming, invasive weed clearing, native tree planting, and repair of irrigation systems.
  • Collects native seeds and propagates native plants at the tribal native plant nursery.
  • Participates in community cleanups and maintains solid waste collection areas.
  • Document work plan progress with photos and written narratives in support of grant reporting.
  • Develop procedures for invasive weed clearing, irrigation maintenance, and native plant propagation.
  • Supervise inmate work crew.
  • Submits monthly report to EPO Director.
  • Maintains HAZWOPER certification.
  • Attends in-person and virtual training for skill development.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of computers and programs (Windows, Microsoft Office programs, Google Earth)
  • Desire to understand the Cocopah environment (plants, animals, water, land, air)
  • Willing to work both in the office and in the field under all weather conditions.
  • Understanding of invasive plant species, tree trimming, pruning, and planting.
  • Ability to help develop working manuals and documents.
  • Travel and training attendance may be required.
  • Works well with others and can supervise a work crew.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of Tribal government functions.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to undergo and pass a DPS/FBI fingerprint background investigation, and cannot have two (2) or more misdemeanors or any felony convictions

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree in a related field or trade school, professional or technical certification, specialized training. Testing may be required.
  • 2 years of work experience in a related field
  • 2 years of supervisory work experience is preferred

Under the direct supervision of the EPO Director, the Technician carries out the work plan tasks of the Cocopah Indian Tribe's environmental programs.
