Location & Schedule

In this position, you can expect to on-site 5 days per week at the Office of the Medical Examiner located at 120 W 5th Ave, Denver, CO 80204. Free on-street parking is available surrounding the facility.

What You’ll Do

The Denver Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE) is the City’s accredited public health agency, promoting healthy people, healthy pets, and a sustainable environment through education, engagement, and enforcement. The department is funded by the General Fund, Enterprise Funds, Special Revenue Funds, and a mix of state, federal, and private grants and donations.  The Office of the Medical Examiner (OME) investigates all violent, suspicious and unexpected natural deaths that occur in the City and County of Denver. The goal of forensic investigation and autopsy is to develop logical, scientific, and unbiased information necessary to determine the cause and manner of death for the proper and accurate completion of the death certificate and autopsy report. The agency also offers death expert testimony/consultation, death scene response and investigation, and deceased identification and death notification. The Office of the Medical Examiner has an opening for an Environmental Public Health Technician II. The Vital Records team is responsible for managing and processing documents, including birth and death certificates, and providing customer service to individuals with questions pertaining to these documents and certifications.

Specifically, as an Environmental Public Health Technician II you will:

• Receives, processes, and reviews applications for issuing of birth and death certificates following department policies, procedures, and applicable laws/regulations.
• Assists customers in person, electronically, and/or over the telephone with any questions pertaining to the requirements and process of obtaining a certificate.
• Maintains and balances all revenue transactions daily.
• Adheres to department security of paper; including accountability of daily banknote paper reconciliation and tracking. Adheres to policies and procedures regarding security and quality standards to ensure all State regulations are followed. Ensures confidentiality of client information.
• Assures the best possible accuracy and timeliness of fulfilling customer requests for birth and death certificates or permits while meeting expected productivity standards.
• Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications.
• Along with all department staff, this position will actively participate on an emergency preparedness and response team to support DDPHE’s responsibilities outlined in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan.  This may require being ‘on-call’ from time to time to help respond to emergencies.  Additional training commensurate with assigned duties will be provided.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of experience performing technical or administrative work assisting in an environmental public health specific to the assignment.

Education and Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.

License/Certification Requirement: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
