Position Overview:

The Environmental Recycling & Facilities Assistant is a hybrid position, responsible for flexing between multiple departments, providing support to the facilities recycling needs, and minor facility maintenance as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Environmental Recycling Assistant:

  • Perform general, non-specialized duties pertaining to the recycling and cleaning of the production floor and other areas.
  • Perform route pick-up of all recyclable and waste materials. Removing them from the production and non-production areas and disposing accordingly.
  • Sort recyclables to separate cardboard, supersacks, metals, paper, loose plastic, plastic bottles, and aluminum for recycling.
  • Operate forklift, powered pallet jack and pallet jack as needed.
  • Operate the sweeper/scrubber to clean the production areas.
  • Operate the balers safely and ensure all bales (cardboard, plastic or supersacks) are secure and palletized.
  • Load the recycle trailer as needed.

Facilities Assistant:

  • Assist perform minor building maintenance duties, including but not limited to:

painting, minor electrical repairs, plumbing, carpentry, etc.

  • Clean interior and exterior of the building
  • Complete administrative duties, such as filling out forms and reporting project statuses to EHS Manager
  • Comply with all safety and health regulations
  • Keep inventory of facility and cleaning supplies and equipment, and report needs to EHS Manager
  • Work with and maintain relationships with contracted vendors

Education and Experience:

  • High school graduate or equivalent; some college preferred
  • 1-year facilities or general maintenance experience recommended.
  • General knowledge and proficiency with powered industrial vehicles are required.

Competencies and Skills:

  • Self-directed, strong work ethic, ability to manage time and responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to track activity status and report on progress as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image.
  • Ability to be proactive, think creatively, and effectively troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Demonstrate integrity, reliability and solid judgment at all times.
  • Must have great attention to detail.
  • Must possess fine-motor skills to work effectively and efficiently with small parts.
  • Working knowledge of Windows environment, Microsoft Word, and Excel recommended.
  • Solid customer service and communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to help implement, communicate, and enforce safety practices and policies

Physical Demands:

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Some work is required in "off-hours" to service equipment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to move about facility on regular basis to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking.
  • Visual and hearing acuity.
  • Must be able to work from heights

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:

  • General office environment and plant environment, with fork lift and other general hazards.
  • Exposure to the outdoors, unstable ground, and climbing.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment for falls hazards for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work on hazards under proper engineering and safety controls.
  • Must be able to work in a team and solo environment.
