This is administrative work coordinating the environmental compliance of all utilities permits, the Citywide industrial pretreatment program (IPP), and the Citywide Cross Connection Control Program. This position assists with advising the public on environmental regulations and initiating enforcement activities. The work involves assisting with data collection, file management, database maintenance, basic data analysis and quality control of same. This work entails assisting with public contact explaining code/rule compliance and making recommendations to water utility department customers or their representatives.
Essential Job Duties

Minimum Qualifications
Science, Engineering or related field.
Ability to perform research and prepare white papers, reports and other communication. Organizational and planning skills. Knowledge of federal, state, and local government environmental laws, ordinances, and regulations relating to water and wastewater. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in cross-connections and storage tank inspections. Ability to read, review, and interpret as-built drawings related to cross-connections. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to keep accurate records. Ability to operate a personal computer including data entry and word processing. Ability to assess facilities for potential cross-connections.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of governmental agencies, the plumbing and fire technician community, other employees and utility customers. Ability to perform a variety of tasks independently under general supervision.

Works inside and outside, so may be periodically exposed to extreme temperatures, animals/insects, confined spaces, electrical and mechanical hazards, heights, noises, dust, fumes, vapors, and other respiratory irritants.
