At the advanced performance level, performs complex professional work in a specialty area in the acquisition, preservation, management and protection of the states environmental/natural resources. Candidate's main responsibility will be the operation of the Richard Mine Drainage AMD Treatment Plant, located outside of Morgantown, WV. Such responsibilities during normal work hours include, but are not limited to, daily visits to the facility to ensure the ongoing treatment of the mine discharge, performing routine maintenance and cleaning, scheduling and overseeing work by maintenance contractors, maintaining appropriate records of work performed, and scheduling deliveries of treatment materials, and tracking cost expenditures related to the operation of this facility. The candidate will also be on call during off-hours should issues with the treatment system arise.

In addition to the primary duties identified above, the candidate may/will:

  • Assist with the operation, routine maintenance, and cleaning of other AMD treatment facilities operated by WVDEP AML;
  • Conduct and/or assist with field inspections and water sampling of AML sites, streams and/or watersheds impaired by AML sites,
  • Maintain records of facility operations in an approved repository such as a database, construction management software, and/or AMLNet;
  • Consult with AML Design, AML Planning, and outside vendors to assist in the design of new water treatment facilities, and improvements of existing water treatment facilities;
  • Employee will perform other duties as required.

Additional Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate a 4-wheel drive vehicle in hazardous and inclement weather conditions;
  • May be required to handle hazardous and toxic chemicals;
  • Must complete required Hazardous Materials Handling and/or HAZWOPER safety training;
  • Must be physically capable of walking long distances over rugged terrain in adverse weather and carrying equipment for extended distances;
  • Must pass a physical examination within the first six (6) months of employment.
  • Be physically able to utilize respiratory protection;
  • Must be comfortable with working alone in isolated locations;
  • Must be flexible with daily schedule to accommodate special circumstances;
  • Must be proficient in computer and mechanical skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

OR

Substitution: Additional full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience as described below may be substituted for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.

AND

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in the acquisition, preservation, protection and enhancement of environmental/natural resources, environmental protection or in an agency-specific area related to environmental impact.

OR

Substitution: Graduate coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience at the rate of fifteen (15) semester hours for every one (1) year of experience.
