    Job Description

    Summary Statement

    The Nutrient Management (NM) Program is guided by an appointed commission representing the Stateâs agricultural and turf industries. This position is responsible for performing audits of nutrient applications to turf to carry out the mission of the program and protect Delawareâs water quality. The NM Law outlines nutrient application requirements and limits or allows a company to apply based on recommendations in an NM Plan. The successful candidate will ensure nutrient applications are in compliance based on applicator records. Strong command of environmental science principles and clear communication is needed during inspections, so the regulated community understands why the NM Program enforces the law and regulations. The NM Program uses a cloud database to manage inspections.

    Essential Functions

    Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.     • Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
    • Performs statistical analysis of data.
    • Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
    • Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
    • Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.

    Job Requirements

    JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist IIIÂ

    Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

    • Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
    • Two years'' experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
    • Two years'' experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
    • Two years'' experience in technical report writing.

    Conditions of Hire

    As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver''s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

    All new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.
