Job Overview:
APTIM Environmental & Infrastructure, LLC is seeking an entry-level Environmental Scientist on a full-time basis in our Lenexa, KS office to participate in a variety of environmental compliance tasks in support of national retail client programs. This position will support environmental permitting, RCRA and state hazardous waste compliance, non-RCRA waste, regulated waste, hazardous materials management, spill prevention, aboveground storage tank compliance, DOT compliance, environmental reporting, and related data management activities.
The successful candidate will have a background or interest in environmental compliance, regulatory research, field data collection, site assessments, and quality assurance/quality control review of environmental documentation. The candidate will also have excellent communication skills to support interaction with client personnel, facility/store management, suppliers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal project teams.
This position will primarily be in an office-based environment but will also require travel to retail client facilities to conduct environmental compliance reviews, site visits, inspections, audits, photographic documentation, operational evaluations, and/or gather related data to support permitting, reporting, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
+ Executing and managing various work scopes while meeting project schedules and budgets.
+ Working independently and as part of a project team and being able to adjust to changing conditions.
+ Conducting environmental regulatory research and applicability reviews. Supporting preparation of environmental permits, plans, reports, regulatory submissions, and client deliverables.
+ Supporting RCRA and state hazardous waste, non-RCRA waste, regulated waste, hazardous materials, SPCC, AST, DOT, and related environmental compliance programs.
+ Conducting retail client facility site visits to collect environmental compliance information and document site conditions.
+ Performing environmental compliance inspections, facility walkthroughs, audits, and site assessments related to hazardous waste, hazardous materials, stormwater, aboveground storage tanks, spill prevention, and other environmental requirements.
+ Gathering field data, photographs, operational information, and site observations to support permitting, reporting, compliance evaluations, and corrective action recommendations.
+ Interfacing with client personnel at corporate, regional, facility, and store levels.
+ Communicating with regulatory agencies, as needed.
+ Preparing site visit summaries, inspection reports, data tables, and environmental compliance documentation under the guidance of senior technical staff.
+ Managing environmental compliance data in spreadsheets, client systems, SharePoint, and other project tools.
+ Performing quality assurance/quality control reviews of environmental documentation, site information, reports, and regulatory submittals.
+ Managing time effectively to ensure quality work products are prepared to meet project deadlines.
+ Applying knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard environmental compliance situations.
+ Following defined processes explicitly while also identifying and accommodating new or changing scenarios and supporting development of processes for new activities.
+ Traveling to client locations throughout the United States, including occasional overnight travel, to support APTIM’s retail client site visit needs.
Basic Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, a core science such as geology, chemistry, physics, or biology, engineering, or a related area required.
+ Related work experience of 0–2 years. Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
+ Must have strong organizational skills.
+ Strong computer skills required.
+ Must have demonstrated strength and proficiency with Microsoft applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, SharePoint Online, Teams, Outlook, and the ability to learn other software applications.
+ Ability to conduct regulatory research and summarize findings clearly and accurately. Ability to work independently while following established project procedures and quality expectations.
+ May be asked to work in the field and travel to complete work for APTIM’s retail client facility site visits.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Prior experience or training regarding environmental compliance and related federal and state environmental regulations.
+ Experience or coursework related to RCRA and state hazardous waste, non-RCRA waste, regulated waste, hazardous materials, spill prevention, aboveground storage tanks, stormwater, DOT, or environmental permitting.
+ Prior internship, consulting, field assessment, facility inspection, audit, or environmental compliance experience.
+ Experience supporting retail, commercial, industrial, or multi-site client programs.
+ Ability and willingness to travel to retail client facilities at regional locations or nationwide, if needed, to conduct environmental compliance reviews, site assessments, inspections, and related project support activities.
+ Experience preparing technical summaries, compliance documentation, inspection notes, data tables, or client-ready environmental deliverables.
+ Experience using SharePoint, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, client databases, environmental management systems, or other data management tools.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $27.88- $29.81 per hour. Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
