Job Title: Environmental Scientist / Asst Project Manager

Job Description

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented Environmental Scientist who enjoys a balanced mix of fieldwork and office-based tasks. You will lead and support environmental site assessments, analyze environmental data, and prepare high-quality technical reports that guide clients in managing environmental risks and remediation strategies. The position provides strong mentorship, exposure to diverse projects, and clear pathways for career growth into project management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), including site inspections, historical research, and database reviews in accordance with ASTM standards.
  • Perform Phase II ESAs, including soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling, and coordinate all aspects of field investigations.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data, including laboratory results, to support accurate site characterization.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and technically sound ESA reports and related documentation.
  • Identify Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) and recommend appropriate next steps for site remediation or further assessment.
  • Support environmental remediation planning and implementation through data evaluation and technical recommendations.
  • Collaborate closely with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure projects comply with applicable environmental regulations and standards.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, effectively balancing schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Use GIS and Microsoft Office tools to compile, analyze, and present environmental data and findings.
  • Participate in a multidisciplinary team environment, contributing technical expertise and supporting colleagues on complex projects.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, learning from senior environmental professionals and expanding technical and project management capabilities.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in environmental consulting or conducting environmental site assessments.
  • Hands-on experience conducting Phase I and Phase II ESAs, including associated report writing.
  • Familiarity with ASTM E1527-21 standards and key environmental regulations such as CERCLA and RCRA.
  • Strong technical writing skills with demonstrated experience preparing ESA reports and related documentation.
  • Ability to interpret laboratory data for soil, groundwater, and vapor samples and translate findings into practical recommendations.
  • Proficiency in GIS software for mapping and spatial analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for data analysis and report preparation.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Solid project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and work within budget constraints.
  • Experience in environmental science, environmental consulting, and environmental monitoring.
  • Experience with soil sampling, soil sample analysis, and environmental remediation activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification or willingness to obtain this certification.
  • Demonstrated experience in Phase I and Phase II ESA report writing with a focus on accuracy and clarity.
  • Interest in developing into a Project Manager role and taking on greater responsibility over time.
  • Ability to balance technical writing with fieldwork, maintaining high quality in both.
  • Motivation to learn directly from senior environmental professionals with extensive industry experience.
  • Strong networking skills and interest in building relationships within the environmental and construction industries.

Work Environment

The work environment offers a flexible blend of field and remote work, with approximately 1-2 days per week spent on-site conducting sampling and field investigations. The remaining days can be performed remotely, creating a very flexible schedule that supports work-life balance. The role typically involves a roughly 30/70 split between field activities and office-based tasks, with a greater emphasis on technical writing than heavy field labor. You will work closely with experienced environmental professionals and collaborate with a consultant who primarily works remotely and provides direct support and mentorship. The culture emphasizes a small, close-knit, and supportive atmosphere where team members share knowledge, encourage professional growth, and provide opportunities to grow into a project management role. The position also offers strong exposure to industry-leading clients and valuable networking opportunities across the environmental and construction sectors.
