Overview:

The Environmental Scientist conducts field sampling, sample preparation, laboratory testing inspections, data analysis, and reporting to monitor and assess water quality and other environmental component for a variety of projects. This role will support environmental projects, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and contribute to the sustainable management of water resources.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs water quality, soil, and sediment sampling in natural and industrial settings, including surface water, groundwater, and wastewater.
  • Operates and maintains sampling and testing equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
  • Records, compiles, and interprets data, preparing detailed reports for internal and client use.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and standards.
  • Supports environmental impact assessments and remediation projects as needed.
  • Collaborates with team members to develop water management strategies and solutions.
  • Maintains accurate field notes, chain-of-custody documentation, and other project records.
  • Assists in identifying potential environmental risks and reports to Project Manager.
  • Conducts site visits and inspections to monitor compliance and project progress.
  • Attends and participates in client meetings related to projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Formal Education, Licenses and Certifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field highly preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment.

 

Knowledge and Experience

  • 1-5 years of experience in water quality testing, environmental monitoring, natural resource management or a related area.
  • Proficiency with sampling and monitoring equipment.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations.
  • Experience with GIS software for mapping and data visualization preferred.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The role involves both office and fieldwork, requiring the ability to lift equipment and samples up to 50 lbs. and work in varying weather conditions. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate drafting instruments, computers and various pieces of office equipment.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.

 

Availability

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional overtime and weekend hours.

 

Travel

Travel will be required to respective job sites and is primarily local during the business day.  Occasionally, travel may be required to job sites in other states and would require overnight stay.
