Quandary Consultants is looking for an Environmental Scientist to join our growing team of diverse professionals. Quandary is a full-service environmental and regulatory consulting firm based in Denver, Colorado.  Founded in 2016 Quandary has quickly become a top choice for clients in the construction, oil & gas, renewable energy, electric utility, and government sectors. We provide environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, air quality, remediation, weed management, stormwater management, and other environmental services to clients throughout the country.

Applicants will be local to Colorado Western Slope and able to travel to the Quandary office located in Rifle, CO for office hours and meetings. Applicants should be highly organized, a good written and oral communicator, and be willing to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Attention to detail and strong technical writing skills are essential qualities. 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform soil and groundwater sampling for remediation programs  
  • Independently and collaboratively conduct fieldwork in remote and urban locations, including active construction sites
  • Travel for short-term and long-term assignments when required by client
  • Collect detailed, accurate, scientific field data
  • Assist with creation of client deliverables including written reports and maps
  • Collect baseline water quality samples, write client reports, and submit agency filings
  • Log soil borings and oversee the installation of groundwater monitoring wells
  • Conduct stormwater BMP inspections
  • Interpret and manage spatial data using ESRI products, Google Earth, or similar platforms
  • Perform occasional Natural Resources surveys
  • Occasionally assist with placement and maintenance of Air Monitors
  • Actively participate in safety programs and support a safe work culture


Key Skills/Abilities:
  • Scientific and/or technical writing experience
  • Experience collecting soil and groundwater samples
  • Understanding and interpretation of soil and water quality laboratory data
  • Federal, State, and local regulatory knowledge 
  • Ability to travel to remote locations alone with minimal supervision
  • Interpret and mange spatial data using ESRI suite of products, Google Earth, and similar platforms
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Enjoy working with a diverse team
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to lift 40-50 pounds
  • Teachable, fast learning, and willing to learn new skill sets
  • Willing to attend environmental training courses when applicable
  • Valid driver's license and clean motor vehicle record


Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or related filed
  • 4-10 years of consulting experience
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred
  • CPR/AED certification preferred


Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Working outdoors, often in inclement weather conditions
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Prolonged sitting
  • Walking long distance
  • Repetitive tasks that are physically demanding
  • Travel (up to 30%) with occasional overnight stay


Expected Salary: $60,000-$75,000 DOE
Job Type: Full-time Exempt
Schedule: Monday - Friday 40+ hours per week, daily schedule dictated by client needs
Work Location: Rifle, CO with required travel to remote field sites across the western slope
