Position Summary

Christiana Care is seeking a dedicated Environmental Services Technician II (EVS) to help maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This role is essential in supporting patient care by ensuring all assigned areas meet hospital cleanliness, infection prevention, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize patient rooms, offices, clinical areas, and ancillary hospital spaces.
• Maintain carts, equipment, and EVS closets in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
• Remove empty boxes and debris from carts, closets, hallways, and work areas.
• Replenish paper products and soap supplies throughout the facility.
• Clean and disinfect isolation and precaution rooms according to infection control policies and procedures.
• Collect and transport trash and soiled linen to designated central collection locations.
• Respond promptly to Environmental Services calls and text communications when assigned.
• Log into required mobile applications and ensure work-issued phones are operational at the start of each shift.
• Attend department training sessions and required in-service programs.
• Report maintenance concerns, damaged equipment, safety issues, or hazards to leadership.
• Remove needle containers, glove boxes, and soiled equipment from patient rooms to designated utility areas.
• Transport infectious waste containers to appropriate storage locations.
• Follow all departmental safety procedures and infection prevention protocols.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Prior environmental services, housekeeping, healthcare, or custodial experience preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
• Understanding of departmental policies, procedures, and safety practices.
• Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.
• Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality, particularly regarding patient information.
• Ability to maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and appearance.
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
• Ability to remain on your feet and perform assigned duties throughout the entire shift.

Special Requirements

• Handle biohazardous materials in accordance with established safety guidelines.
• Provide one-on-one training as assigned.
• Participate in Bed Board coverage and weekend rotations as assigned.
• Assist with password resets and maintenance of work-issued mobile devices as assigned.
• Clean walls, windows, and other surfaces as needed.
• Demonstrate knowledge and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required.
• Ability to perform repetitive cleaning and sanitation tasks.

Working Conditions

• Hospital environment with potential exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.
• Required to follow all infection prevention and PPE protocols.

This position has a starting rate of $17.75 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $20.74 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.74 per hour.

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
