Custodian Job Description Position Overview We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Custodian to maintain cleanliness and safety across assigned areas of a facility. This is a hands-on role in a collaborative environment where your attention to detail and work ethic make a direct impact every day.Key Responsibilities
Clean and maintain assigned areas including classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, stairwells, and common areas using standard cleaning procedures
Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and polish a variety of floor surfaces, furniture, and fixtures
Empty trash and recycling containers; replace liners and dispose of waste properly
Clean and sanitize restrooms including toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, and floors; restock supplies as needed
Clean walls, windows, blinds, doors, and ceilings; may use ladders or scaffolding to access higher areas
Follow specific cleaning protocols and apply disinfectants and sanitizing agents as directed
Operate basic cleaning equipment including vacuums, mops, and related tools
Report maintenance issues such as leaks, broken fixtures, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor
Secure and maintain cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring proper use and storage
Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols at all times
Assist with snow and ice removal around building entrances as needed
Requirements
Ability to follow oral and written instructions effectively
Basic reading skills to understand labels, safety instructions, and schedules
Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision
Strong interpersonal skills; able to interact respectfully with faculty, staff, students, and visitors
Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs
Physically able to perform repetitive tasks, stand for extended periods, and work in varied environments
