Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Laundry Tech to join our Environmental Services team. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting, sorting, washing, drying, folding, and distributing hospital linens while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, infection prevention, and patient care. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that patients and staff have access to clean, safe linens throughout the facility.
Essential Responsibilities
Collect and transport soiled linens safely according to established schedules.
Sort linens by type, condition, and stain category.
Weigh and accurately document linen by department.
Handle infectious linens in accordance with hospital policies and infection control procedures.
Operate commercial washers, dryers, and other laundry equipment safely and efficiently.
Inspect, handle, and use laundry chemicals according to safety guidelines.
Identify and treat stains using appropriate cleaning methods.
Process, dry, and finish linens using correct temperatures and procedures.
Maintain cleanliness of processed linens by following infection prevention practices, including proper hand hygiene and use of required personal protective equipment.
Fold, inspect, and stock clean linens while maintaining quality standards and appropriate inventory levels.
Keep linen storage areas clean, organized, and adequately stocked without overstocking.
Report equipment malfunctions and safety concerns promptly through the maintenance work order process.
Assist with housekeeping duties during staffing shortages as needed.
Follow all hospital policies, safety standards, and departmental procedures.
Qualifications
Required
Ability to speak, read, and write English.
Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
High school diploma or GED.
Previous commercial or healthcare laundry experience.
Physical Requirements
This position requires:
Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and repetitive motion throughout the shift.
Full manual dexterity for sorting, washing, folding, and stocking linens.
Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to operate commercial laundry equipment.
Ability to distinguish stains and linen conditions by color.
Ability to work in an environment that may include exposure to unpleasant odors and biohazardous materials, including blood and bodily fluids, while following all required safety and infection control procedures.
Ability to safely work with cleaning agents and laundry chemicals.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
