Position Summary

The Environmental Services Manager oversees housekeeping, laundry, sanitation, and infection prevention support services within a long-term care or skilled nursing facility. This role ensures the facility maintains a clean, safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors while complying with Indiana Department of Health regulations, OSHA standards, and CMS requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily housekeeping, laundry, and environmental services operations.
  • Develop and maintain cleaning schedules for resident rooms, common areas, offices, dining rooms, and clinical spaces.
  • Train, schedule, evaluate, and supervise environmental services staff.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control policies and procedures.
  • Monitor use and storage of cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials according to OSHA standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate waste disposal, linen management, floor care, and deep-cleaning projects.
  • Maintain inventory of housekeeping supplies and equipment.
  • Collaborate with nursing and maintenance departments to address resident and facility needs.
  • Participate in state surveys, audits, and corrective action plans as needed.
  • Manage departmental budgets and purchasing.
  • Respond promptly to emergency cleaning or sanitation issues.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of supervisory experience in housekeeping, environmental services, or healthcare support services.
  • Experience in long-term care, healthcare, hospital, or skilled nursing environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of CMS, OSHA, CDC, and Indiana Department of Health regulations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays if needed.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 40 pounds.
    • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and healthcare environments.
    • Ability to respond quickly to spills, biohazards, or emergency sanitation situations.
