The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily cleaning and sanitation operations while directly supervising and ensuring the performance, accountability, and the quality of the Environmental Services team. The Supervisor ensures cleaning tasks are completed correctly, consistently, and in compliance with OSHA standards, infection control guidelines, and facility policies. This role provides direct supervision of staff, including performance oversight, coaching, training support, inventory management, and coordination with management to maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment for clients and staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversight & Quality Assurance
• Supervise daily operations of the Environmental Services department to ensure all tasks meet facility standards and cleaning protocols, regulatory expectations, and OSHA requirements.
• Provide coaching, guidance, corrective feedback, and on-the-job support to Environmental Service Specialists (ESS) to maintain consistent quality and performance.
• Train new ESS staff on facility standards and procedures, safety rules, and infection control practices.
Inventory, Supplies & Equipment
• Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
• Submit supply requests to management before stock runs low.
• Ensure proper labeling and storage, and usage of cleaning chemicals per OSHA guidelines.
• Ensure Environmental Services equipment is cleaned, stored, maintained, and repairs or replacement needs are promptly reported.
Facility Cleaning & Sanitation
- Preform ESS duties as needed to support Environmental Services team.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum, and polish floors as applicable in all assigned areas.
- Dust, clean, and sanitize surfaces throughout the facility.
- Clean windows, mirrors, and glass partitions using appropriate tools and solutions.
- Disinfect restrooms, including toilets, sinks, fixtures, and floors; restock all consumable supplies.
- Shampoo or steam-clean carpets as scheduled if applicable.
- Strip, seal, finish, wax, and buff flooring according to maintenance standards.
- Perform routine cleaning of dining rooms, offices, hallways, common areas, and client-occupied spaces.
- Remove trash and debris from all interior and exterior receptacles; maintain cleanliness of sidewalks and outdoor areas in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Use approved cleaning solutions to remove stains and maintain surface cleanliness.
- Ensure all rubbish and debris are removed from buildings and surrounding walkways.
Client Room Turnover & Linen Support
- Sanitize and reset rooms after client discharge.
- Ensure linens are distributed and maintained weekly.
Infection Control & Safety
- Conduct daily walkthroughs to ensure infection control standards are met.
- Ensure staff follow OSHA and facility safety procedures, including PPE compliance.
- Ensure correct chemical handling and storage practices are followed.
- Identify, document, report safety hazards, and take appropriate corrective action when necessary.
Maintenance & Facility Support
- Assist with minor maintenance needs within scope (bulb changes, simple repairs).
- Assist with moving furniture and equipment as needed.
- Report facility repair needs to management.
Professional Conduct
- Demonstrates strong initiative and accountability, while ensuring staff perform duties accurately, efficiently, and on time without the need of constant supervision.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Demonstrate professionalism in a behavioral health environment.
- Ensures courteous and respectful support is provided to clients and staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in environmental services, housekeeping, janitorial, or custodial services role.
- Minimum of one (1) year Supervisory experience overseeing staff performance, training, and quality assurance. (required)
- Experience working with OSHA regulations, infection control standards, and approved chemical handling protocols.
- Experience in a healthcare or behavioral health environment. (preferred)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (read, write, and speak proficiently). (preferred)
Education
- High School Diploma or GED. (required)
- Coursework or training in environmental services, facilities management, safety, or infection control. (preferred)
- Must hold current CPR and First Aid certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire (training provided by employer)
Certifications
- Must hold current CPR and First Aid certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire (training provided by employer)
Other Requirements
- Valid California identification card or driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. No driving is required for this position.
- Successful completion of FBI/DOJ fingerprint clearance, negative TB test, and pre-employment drug screening, consistent with regulatory requirements.
- Ability to work flexible hours, and weekends shifts as operationally required.
Regulatory & Program Compliance Requirements
As an employee of a licensed substance use disorder (SUD) treatment facility, staff must meet and maintain all regulatory requirements, including:
- Adhering to the Company's drug free workplace standards and all DHCS licensing requirements.
- Employees in recovery from substance use must maintain a minimum of two (2) years of continuous sobriety, consistent with SUD program standards for client facing, safety sensitive, and supportive care roles.
- This position is classified as safety sensitive and requires ongoing compliance with the Company's drug free workplace, safety, and emergency response policies, including random drug testing, consistent with applicable law and regulatory requirements to ensure client and workplace safety.
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge and understanding of OSHA standards, infection control practices, and workplace safety protocols.
- Ability to safely operate, maintain, and demonstrate proper use of custodial equipment, including floor scrubbers, buffers, and pressure washers.
- Ability to supervise staff, provide feedback, coaching, and on the job instruction by modeling best practices and ensuring adherence to established procedures.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and respond to changing operational needs.

Physical Requirements
This position primarily operates in a facility, maintenance and grounds environment. The role requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while performing cleaning, maintenance, and support tasks throughout the facility and grounds.
- Ability to frequently climb stairs, including moving between building levels, responding to operational needs, and supporting emergency situations within the facility.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull furniture, equipment, tools, supplies, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely perform repetitive physical activities including bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, climbing, grasping, and manual handling of tools and equipment.
- Ability to safely use ladders, step stools, and maintenance equipment to access elevated areas such as ceiling fixtures, vents, fans, and exterior surfaces.
- Ability to operate hand tools, cleaning equipment, pressure washers, and basic maintenance tools while maintaining situational awareness and adhering to safety protocols.
- Ability to respond appropriately during facility emergencies and follow established emergency response and safety procedures as required by the position.
