Job Summary:

Requires the fundamental understanding of the principles, concepts, and methods of environmental protection program work. 

 

Job Duties:

Assists with the collection of various forms of environmental materials.  Assists with activities for the calibration, use, and routine maintenance, of equipment and scientific instruments.  Assists with upload information into electronic databases.  Assists with the development of technical reports. Conducts site visits for the purpose of gathering environmental information.  Represents the department effectively when in contact and with other relationships with the public and other government agencies.  Attends trainings and conferences related to the program as needed.  Participates in educational outreach activities on environmental issues that relate to the Cherokee Nation to local communities, schools, and colleges.  Performs various duties associated with the following programs: National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Brownfields Site Assessment, Superfund Reporting, Air Quality Monitoring, Water Quality Monitoring, Lead Based Paint Inspections/Risk Assessment, Asbestos Inspections, Mold Assessments, Home Energy Audit, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) General Assistance Program, Pesticides, Solid Waste, Lead Certification/Accreditation Program, and Underground Storage Tank Training and Inspections.  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities are required.

 

Qualifications:

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. May be required to travel to training events, conferences, and temporary work locations. Additional licenses and/or certifications may be required depending on work and funding agency requirements.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to use standard office equipment such as calculators and computers.

Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in outside weather conditions; is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; in extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
