Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital seeks an Environmental Services Technician for their Environmental Services department responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness with an emphasis on infection control procedures and an aesthetically attractive environment for all Cottage Hospital patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.

This position is responsible for providing unit base services to support patient care on the nursing units. Job Qualifications

  • Education:
  • Preferred: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Technical Requirements:
  • Minimum:
  • Knowledge of cleaning large facilities
  • Proficient in English
  • Preferred:
  • Knowledge of proper use of cleaning fluids
  • Years of Related Work Experience:
  • Preferred: 2 years experience

Job Responsibilities

  • Cleans and disinfects occupied and unoccupied patient rooms:
  • Reads posted signs outside patient rooms
  • Determines and uses transmission precautions
  • Cleans furniture
  • Cleans bathroom, etc. (25%)
  • Performs waste disposal including soiled linen:
  • Collects solid waste
  • Transports it to designated locations in covered bin
  • Handles bio-hazard
  • Recognizes bio-hazardous waste, etc. (15%)
  • Cleans and disinfects office areas, conference rooms, public, and outpatient areas:
  • Empties wastebaskets
  • Dusts and cleans tables, desks, chairs, furniture, and fixtures
  • Cleans/disinfects bathrooms
  • Dusts and wet mops or vacuums floors
  • High dusts
  • Replenishes supplies
  • Checks for needed maintenance and repairs and notifies supervisor of need (10%)
  • Demonstrates successful completion of related work/performance criteria and education, including but not limited to area specific competencies and ancillary unit work (10%)
  • Cares for, cleans, and disinfects EVS equipment:
  • Daily at end of shift or at end of using
  • Cleans mop bucket/wringer
  • Cleans EVS cart
  • Cleans EVS closet/storage area (10%)
  • Cleaning chemical product knowledge/usage:
  • Knows name and purpose of products/tools to use in specific areas assigned for cleaning the following surfaces:
  • Tile/hard surface floors and counter surfaces in clinical/patient care areas
  • Upholstered furniture
  • Carpets and wooden surfaces (15%)
  • Performs miscellaneous EVS tasks as assigned:
  • Moves furniture
  • Replaces cubicle curtains
  • Deep cleans patient and business areas
  • Identifies and reports safety hazards and needed repairs to Supervisor (15%)
