Environmental Services Technician
Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS) is a multi-doctor veterinary specialty and emergency hospital located in East Greenwich, RI. Our 24-hour hospital is seeking a part-time and full-time Environmental Services Technicians to join our team and help maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming environment for our patients, clients, and staff.
This position plays an important role in supporting hospital operations by helping ensure that clinical, client-facing, and employee areas remain clean, stocked, and functional throughout the day. This is not a pet care position, but candidates should be comfortable working around dogs and cats in a busy veterinary hospital setting.This position may require evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts. Full-time positions are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Perform routine hospital-wide cleaning of floors, surfaces, exam rooms, bathrooms, lobbies, lounges, offices, and other assigned areas.
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain high-touch surface areas including counters, chairs, door handles, railings, tables, and shared workspaces.
- Maintain daily floor care by sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and helping keep hallways, lobbies, and workspaces clean and presentable.
- Clean and restock public and employee bathrooms, including paper products, soap, and other necessary supplies.
- Clean, organize, and restock employee lounges and shared staff areas.
- Empty interior and exterior trash receptacles and replace liners as needed.
- Vacuum, clean, and maintain office areas and administrative workspaces.
- Assist with cleaning up pet waste, spills, and accidents promptly and appropriately.
- Support routine hospital maintenance tasks as needed, including light facility upkeep and assisting with keeping hospital areas and equipment organized and functional.
- Assist with outdoor upkeep as needed, including sweeping walkways, removing pet waste, and occasional snow removal from client walk areas.
- Assist with hospital laundry, including washing, drying, folding, and distributing laundry to patient care areas.
- Help maintain a clean, odor-free, professional hospital environment for clients, patients, visitors, and staff.
Qualifications
- Ability to speak and read English.
- Reliable transportation.
- Comfortable working around dogs and cats.
- Ability to work independently and stay on task in a busy hospital environment.
- Attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workplace.
- Professional, pleasant, engaged, and respectful communication with clients and coworkers.
- Willingness to assist with changing hospital needs and routine support tasks as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and move carts, trash, laundry, and supplies throughout the hospital.
- Ability to work around animals, animal hair, odors, bodily fluids, and other materials commonly encountered in a veterinary hospital.
- Ability to safely use cleaning products, disinfectants, and chemicals while following required safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Ability to perform indoor and occasional outdoor duties as needed.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation: Competitive pay based on experience. Shift differential for evening hours worked after 8pm.
