Environmental Specialist / EHS Specialist
Location: On-site – Concord, NC
Salary: $73,000–$75,000 base
The Opportunity
You will be the environmental go‑to for a complex, highly engineered manufacturing operation. This is a hands‑on role, embedded on-site in Concord, where you will:
- Lead environmental programs, compliance, and reporting across the plant
- Support health & safety, but as a secondary component of the job
- Act as an internal advisor to maintenance, engineering, and operations on environmental risk, permitting, and practical compliance
- Help reshape how the site thinks about environmental performance as part of overall EHS
This is not a consulting role. We need someone who has worked in manufacturing, not only with manufacturers as a consultant.
What We're Looking For
Experience
- Solid track record in an industrial / manufacturing environment (plant, factory, production)
- Hands‑on experience with:
- Environmental compliance (air, water, waste, hazardous materials, etc.)
- Environmental aspects of EHS programs (permitting, reporting, audits, inspections, corrective actions)
- Working cross‑functionally with operations, maintenance, engineering, and/or production teams
- Evidence that you have implemented or significantly driven environmental initiatives, not just maintained a program someone else built
- ISO14001 experience
Health & Safety
- Background in safety is needed, but as a secondary skillset:
- Participation in safety programs, inspections, incident investigations, and training
- Understanding of OSHA requirements in a manufacturing context
- Safety experience on its own, without environmental depth, is not sufficient for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Internal title may be EHS Specialist / Environmental Specialist, but the core responsibilities include:
- Own and drive the environmental agenda for the Concord site
- Ensure day‑to‑day compliance with relevant environmental regulations and internal standards
- Prepare and maintain required environmental documentation, reporting, and records
- Lead or support environmental audits and follow‑up on corrective and preventive actions
- Partner with maintenance, engineering, and operations on:
- Environmental risk assessments for projects and changes
- Environmental controls on equipment, processes, and materials
- Practical solutions that work on the plant floor
- Contribute to EHS training, communications, and culture‑building activities, especially where environmental topics are involved
- Support broader safety programs (inspections, incident investigations, etc.) as needed
Profile & Mindset
We're interested in people who:
- Self‑identify as environmental specialists within EHS, not purely as safety people
- Are comfortable in a plant environment and talking to maintenance, engineers, and operators on the floor
- Can explain environmental concepts in clear, practical language
