Environmental Specialist II – Water Programs & Compliance
Location: Atlanta, GA (GPC Headquarters) Hybrid Schedule: Monday–Thursday Onsite | Friday Remote Travel: Typically 10–25% (may increase as needed) Contract- 18 Months Client- Georgia Power
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist II to support environmental permitting and compliance for water-related programs. This role is responsible for ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local environmental regulations while minimizing environmental impacts and promoting sustainable practices.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of construction stormwater best management practices (BMPs), erosion and sedimentation control requirements, and regulatory permitting processes.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Permitting & Compliance
Oversee environmental permitting activities for water programs.
Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
Conduct environmental audits and assessments.
Identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
Regulatory Knowledge & Implementation
Ensure compliance with:
Federal Clean Water Act
Georgia Water Quality Act
Georgia NPDES Storm Water Discharge General Permits
Georgia Erosion & Sedimentation Act
Interpret and apply regulatory requirements to construction and operational projects.
Stormwater & Erosion Control Oversight
Apply working knowledge of:
Construction Stormwater BMPs
Erosion and Sedimentation Controls
Support project teams in implementing compliant environmental controls.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Provide environmental guidance during project planning and execution.
Communicate compliance requirements clearly and effectively.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in:
Environmental Science
Environmental Engineering
Related field
3–7 years of experience in environmental permitting and compliance.
Strong knowledge of federal and Georgia-specific environmental regulations.
Experience with stormwater management and erosion control requirements.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission certification as:
Inspector
Design Professional
Plan Reviewer
