Work Environment
This role is primarily field-based at industrial sites such as power plants, steel mills, refineries, and manufacturing facilities. Environmental Technicians frequently work at heights between 100 and 400 feet above ground level, where temperatures are typically lower and winds are higher, so wearing extra layers is important. Field days generally range from 8 to 10+ hours, while warehouse days are typically 8 hours. Teamwork is central to the role, and technicians always work as part of a crew, with team sizes varying from about 3 to as many as 20 people depending on the project. The typical attire includes jeans, a long-sleeve T-shirt, boots (non-steel toe are acceptable), and appropriate outerwear such as a coat and stocking cap during colder months. Travel varies from week to week, with some jobs lasting a single day and others extending through an entire workweek; occasional weekend work may be required, generally not more than once a month. When not in the field, technicians work in the warehouse or home office environment preparing testing equipment, loading vehicles, cleaning, and performing general maintenance tasks. Work volume can fluctuate due to weather and seasonality; severe rain, sleet, snow, or ice may delay field jobs, but technicians typically continue working in the warehouse or office during these periods. During larger projects, technicians may work extended hours and up to approximately 60 hours per week when combining on-site work and paid travel time. The company provides OSHA 10-hour certification training at no cost and offers a strong pathway to permanent employment with comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, retirement plan with company match, paid time off, and paid holidays for permanent employees, along with a clear advancement path from Test Technician through engineering, team lead, project management, and director-level roles.
