Job Title: Environmental Technician

Job Description

The Environmental Technician manages and performs stormwater and environmental field tasks on assigned job sites, ensuring projects meet specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. This role leads and motivates field crews, coordinates daily work plans with project stakeholders, and maintains accurate documentation to support successful and compliant project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and perform stormwater tasks on assigned job sites, ensuring work aligns with project goals and timelines.
  • Lead, direct, and motivate field crews to achieve productivity targets and meet project deadlines.
  • Coordinate daily work plans with Supervisors, Project Managers, and client representatives to align field activities with project requirements.
  • Ensure all work meets project specifications, quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, job logs, and photo documentation to track project progress and field conditions.
  • Order materials as needed and identify project needs or changes, communicating them promptly to relevant stakeholders.
  • Conduct site walk-throughs to verify completion, quality of work, and adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Enforce company safety policies and OSHA regulations on all assigned job sites.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety meetings to promote safe work practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform regular site inspections to identify and address safety, quality, and compliance issues.
  • Verify crew certifications and ensure proper documentation is maintained and up to date.
  • Ensure proper utility mark-outs are in place and safe excavation practices are followed.
  • Perform and document Erosion and Sediment (E&S) inspections in accordance with regulatory and project requirements.
  • Support stream restoration, remediation, and erosion and sediment control activities as required by project scope.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in environmental field work, including stormwater-related tasks.
  • Knowledge of stream restoration, remediation, and environmental science concepts.
  • Understanding of water resources, erosion control, and sediment control practices.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as required.
  • Ability to read and interpret project plans, drawings, and related documents.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead, direct, and motivate field crews.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with project stakeholders and documenting work.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to obtain a DOT medical card, if required for project or equipment needs.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety practices applicable to construction and environmental field work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background or education in environmental science, water resources, or a related field.
  • Experience conducting Erosion and Sediment (E&S) inspections and completing related documentation.
  • Familiarity with stormwater management practices and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience coordinating with Supervisors, Project Managers, and client representatives on construction or environmental projects.
  • Ability to identify project needs or changes and communicate them clearly to the project team.
  • Strong attention to detail in maintaining daily reports, job logs, and photo documentation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, including leading toolbox talks, safety meetings, and site inspections.

Work Environment

This role is primarily field-based, with daily work performed on active job sites. The Environmental Technician will spend most of the day outdoors, actively patrolling the site and working around ongoing construction and environmental activities. A construction trailer will be available for use as a base of operations and for completing documentation, meetings, and planning tasks. The position involves working in physically demanding conditions, including walking uneven terrain, exposure to varying weather, and close coordination with field crews and equipment. Transportation support is provided, and the organization offers a profit-sharing program as part of its overall rewards and benefits. The work environment emphasizes safety, collaboration, and adherence to project specifications and regulatory standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Henrico, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $31.00/hr.
