The position is ideal for someone who is mechanically inclined, enjoys hands-on work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and is eager to learn environmental field practices with no prior experience required.
Responsibilities
- Travel to project sites throughout the region, typically within approximately 100 miles of a central hub, using a company-provided vehicle to perform field work.
- Conduct field sampling and monitoring activities at landfill and industrial sites, including groundwater and stormwater sampling and other environmental field investigations.
- Perform environmental field sampling and investigation activities such as soil, groundwater, vapor, and site assessments in accordance with established procedures and environmental protocols.
- Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain landfill gas collection and control systems to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation.
- Perform routine wellfield balancing, inspections, and preventative maintenance on wells and related infrastructure to keep systems operating efficiently and in regulatory compliance.
- Support the operation of blowers, flares, and condensate management systems by monitoring performance, identifying issues, and assisting with adjustments and repairs.
- Conduct field sampling and monitoring at wells, probes, headers, blowers, flares, pumps, and other collection system components, documenting results accurately.
- Perform surface emissions monitoring and environmental compliance inspections at landfills and related facilities, following applicable standards and procedures.
- Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain analytical and monitoring equipment used for environmental sampling, emissions monitoring, and system performance evaluation.
- Complete hands-on field maintenance activities including pipe repair and fusion, pump repairs, equipment servicing, and general system upkeep to support reliable operations.
- Collect, analyze, and document environmental and operational data from field activities, ensuring accuracy and clarity in all records.
- Maintain accurate field logs, inspection reports, and documentation of observations, corrective actions, and recommendations, and communicate findings clearly to project managers, supervisors, and clients.
- Assist in preparing Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) reports by providing field observations, data, and supporting documentation.
- Support construction monitoring and oversight activities at energy complexes, landfills, and other industrial or infrastructure sites, ensuring environmental compliance and proper documentation.
- Conduct stormwater inspections and sampling at trucking terminals and other industrial facilities, documenting conditions and ensuring adherence to environmental requirements.
- Work independently at project sites with minimal supervision, managing daily tasks, prioritizing work, and ensuring safe and efficient completion of assignments.
- Apply strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in the field to identify and resolve mechanical, operational, or environmental issues as they arise.
- Perform physically demanding tasks such as driving a pickup truck, walking inspections of improved and unimproved property, lifting and carrying equipment or mechanical components up to 50 pounds unassisted, hand excavation and digging using shovels and picks, carrying and climbing ladders, operating and working from man lifts, and using electric and hand tools.
- Follow all safety procedures and environmental protocols, maintaining a strong safety mindset and attention to detail while working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Communicate regularly with project managers and supervisors to report progress, discuss findings, and coordinate next steps for ongoing projects.
