What You'll Do:
The Environmental Technician performs field-based environmental sampling, monitoring, and assessment activities in support of environmental consulting projects. This role develops foundational technical skills through hands-on fieldwork and supports project teams with data collection, documentation, and reporting. The Environmental Technician works under supervision while progressing toward independent field execution and demonstrating ECS Core Values.
Responsibilities
- Performs and supports field sampling of various environmental media (soil, groundwater, air, etc.)
- Works in both indoor and outdoor environments under varying site conditions
- Communicates daily with technicians, project managers, and site personnel as directed
- Attends project meetings with senior staff as requested
- Assists with data collection, basic calculations, and documentation activities
- Prepares clear and accurate daily field reports describing site activities and observations
- Learns to calibrate, operate, and maintain field equipment
- Assists with report production and basic office support tasks
- Supports environmental assessments, including:
- Asbestos-containing materials
- Lead-based paint
- Radon
- Mold
- Begins to support installation, operation, and maintenance of remediation equipment
- Begins to learn the basics of remediation chemistry as well as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing principles
- Obtains required certifications as assigned
- Maintains organization and readiness of field equipment
- Performs additional technical and support duties as assigned
What We're Looking For:
Required Qualifications
- 0 years of related experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Obtain basic certifications applicable to the work performed as per the ECS Technician Certification Policy
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying site conditions
- Ability to lift and carry field equipment (~40 lbs)
- Very limited knowledge of environmental principles and testing methods (entry-level)
- Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and in a team environment
- Basic proficiency with electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops)
- Ability to read and interpret maps, plans, and field instructions (developing)
- Dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented (developing)
- Must have the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and follow all local and state laws, road/driving regulations, and company policies
- If driving for or on behalf of any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required

The expected pay range for this role and location is $20-$24/hour. The final agreed-upon compensation will be determined based on specific location and other individual qualifications.
