Environmental Technician

PERIKIN's Environmental Technicians support environmental operations by safely removing, remediating, and managing recyclable and hazardous materials. Technicians work alongside environmental teams to perform on-site activities such as cylinder removal and dismantling and may support emergency response efforts following hazardous material incidents. This position reports to the Team Lead or Project Manager and is responsible for hazardous material collection and handling across Fort Bliss, TX and NM.

We are seeking a detail-oriented, safety-driven professional who communicates well, works effectively across teams, and takes pride in maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Salary: This position is covered under the Davis-Bacon Act and offers a prevailing wage rate of $31.45 per hour, plus an additional $5.09 per hour Health & Welfare benefit package based on benefits elected.

Work location: Fort Bliss, TX and NM

Primary Duties:

  • Handle hazardous and non-hazardous waste and materials
  • Perform weekly/monthly pickups and transport RCRA-regulated waste from SAP sites to the Hazardous Waste Storage Facility
  • Stage, profile, and process hazardous, universal, and non-hazardous waste for disposal
  • Assist in hazardous waste and POL transport and spill clean-up at SAP locations
  • Provide RCRA Awareness guidance and training to waste generators
  • Operate, clean, and maintain government-issued equipment
  • Complete SAP surveillance reports
  • Maintain activity logs in accordance with federal/state regulations
  • Participate in after-hours Spill Response Team operations
  • Support sustainability tasks including drum washing/crushing, aerosol depressurizing, fluorescent lamp crushing, and fire extinguisher recycling
  • Pump fuel/POL/antifreeze from Above Storage Tanks
  • Operate forklifts and other mobile equipment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in environmental or related field
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER (OSHA Emergency Response) certification
  • Valid driver's license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient in Outlook and Word
  • Ability to pass annual and random drug/alcohol screenings
  • Annual Fit for Duty and respirator evaluations
  • DOT training (49 CFR 172.704, every 3 years)
  • OSHA 1910.120 requirements (first aid, respirator fit test, baseline physical)
  • CDL with Hazmat Endorsement (for operators of vehicles >5 tons)
  • OSHA HAZCOM and forklift training
  • Ability to adapt across all aspects of HWFS operations
  • Ability to work under pressure and in extreme temperatures
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, kneel, bend, climb, and work on slippery surfaces
  • Ability to complete logs, surveillance reports, permits, and other documentation
  • Ability to wear full PPE and respiratory protection
  • Effective interaction with coworkers and Fort Bliss personnel
