Summary:

The Environmental Coordinator will evaluate, participate in, observe, and control the legal and proper flow of regulated and non-regulated hazardous waste, waste oil, and potential environmental pollutants by performing the following duties:

Essential functions (responsibilities, tasks, supervisory needs)

  • Assists in serving as initial on-site contact and liaison between environmental waste contractors, regulatory inspectors, and Port regulatory personnel.
  • Helps conducts required environmental observations, tests, and analysis.
  • Participates in cleanup and consolidation of materials as needed.
  • Assists in evaluating test results and makes recommendations for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Properly label and package or palletize hazardous or non-hazardous, regulated, and non-regulated materials for storage, shipment, or disposal.
  • Receive, sign for and possibly transport hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Inspect hazardous waste/materials storage areas daily.
  • Collect, identify, and categorize hazardous and non-hazardous materials for disposal or recycle.
  • Safely operate equipment within its limitations.
  • Identify and review applicable regulations and apply them as necessary.
  • Inspect property daily for potential housekeeping materials-storage issues or storm water pollutants and rectify as needed.
  • Perform as required all storm water testing at required testing intervals and submit reports accordingly.
  • Works with Departments, Plants, Vessels, and Operations to ensure compliance with regulations pertaining to potential storm water pollutants and/or hazardous materials.
  • Assists in emergencies involving pollution and stormwater incidents.
  • Assists in investigating pollution incidents that occur.
  • Acquires knowledge of Trident's Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions
  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.

This is a nonexempt position with an hourly rate range of $23.00 - $26.00

Minimum Requirements

Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)

  • High School diploma or GED required.

Preferred education and experience

  • Proficiency with MS Office products.
  • Ability to read, interpret and write reports and correspondence in English.
  • Able to take on special tasks or projects with limited direction and oversight required.
  • Strong multitasking and organization skills required.
  • Able to take ownership for assigned tasks, as defined by supervisor.

Additional eligibility requirements (language skills, training, certifications, DL, licensing):

  • HAZWOPER 24 Hour, Spill Response, Asbestos Awareness, Storm Water, and other required/mandatory training within 45-60 days of employment.
  • Must be able to pass forklift certification or ability to become certified within 30 days of hiring; a valid driver's license is preferred.

Work environment (includes travel/on-call):

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
