Minimum Qualifications:

Associates Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Engineering, supplemented with two years of experience performing laboratory test, including collecting and gathering samples for environmental compliance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Water Laboratory Analyst Certification and/or Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Certification within one (1) year of employment as issued by the State of Georgia. Type of Certification to be determined by area of assignment; Valid State of Georgia Drivers License or proof of mobility equivalent may be requested.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to implement Fulton Countys requirements to monitor the north Fulton water distribution system and its requirements and to ensure that water samples in streams, lakes, rivers where major sewer has spilled are collected and analyzed in accordance to the laws, rules and regulations established by federal, state and A2LA accreditation authorities.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Collects and performs field and laboratory analysis on drinking water samples and transports samples back to the lab. Performs field analysis on the samples such as pH, chlorine, temperature and turbidity. Conducts QC checks and calibration checks on pH meters, colorimeters and turbo meters prior to use. Prepares the appropriate forms and chain of custody records.

Coordinates sampling and field testing with engineers, county inspectors, and contractors during new water line installations.

Calibrates meters to perform field testing and performs quality control and quality assurance checks on equipment. Conducts QC checks on the following meters with certified standards: chlorine, turbid meters, fluoride, pH. Calibrates meters with certified pH buffers and documents in pH Calibration book.

Checks performance of instruments with secondary gel standards. Performs quarterly in-house calibration of turbid meters using certified formazin standards. Performs quarterly, blind samples for QA officer and two proficiency double blind samples for A2LA requirements.

Performs routine maintenance on all equipment to include: preventive maintenance of pH meters, electrodes, dissolved oxygen probes and colorimeters. Records maintenance in equipment maintenance book. Initiates Trouble Alert Sheets on nonconformance of instruments and troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and communicates with manufacturers technical support.

Prepares and maintains records and reports to include field sampling sheets and chain of custody for daily sampling event for drinking water and stream monitoring. Maintains inventory book when new Lab supplies, chemicals/reagents arrive at the Lab.

Generates and maintains vehicle maintenance records and leads monthly safety meeting and generates training records.

Enters data into computer using charts and graphs: enters QC data into excel spreadsheets. Enters daily production count into excel. Enters control charts for chlorine and turbidity using excel. Enters miscellaneous data into Lab works LIMS.

Uses Global Position Systems (GPS), AERO Atlas, and Fulton Countys Geographical Information System GIS: to identify geographical area and plan routes and to coordinate spill sights.
