Seminar Leaders are essential partners in helping students navigate expectations, develop effective learning habits, and successfully complete their summer coursework.Duties and ResponsibilitiesTraining & PreparationMandatory training and orientation will take place during the week of June 22Training will focus on:Understanding the EOP / SSS mission and TRIO frameworkSupporting first‑generation college studentsApplying high‑impact educational practicesEffective seminar facilitation and academic coaching strategiesCreating engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environmentsPotential Course AreasOpenings may be available in the following subject areas:History 1002 – Western Civilization from 1725Biology 1009 – Biology for Non‑Science MajorsSociology 1001Theology 1001Math 1700 – StatisticsKey ResponsibilitiesSupport incoming freshmen enrolled in accredited summer courses by reinforcing course content and academic expectationsAssist students in developing college‑level study skills , including time management, note‑taking, test preparation, critical reading, and active learning strategiesAttend and observe the corresponding university course to stay aligned with instructional goals and course pacingDesign and facilitate interactive academic seminars connected to course materialHold regular office hours to provide individualized academic supportLead small‑group tutorials and collaborative learning sessions as neededUtilize high‑impact practices (e.g., active learning, peer discussion, reflection, applied problem‑solving) to enhance student learningCreate engaging, creative, and inclusive learning experiences that encourage participation and confidenceSupport the unique needs of first‑generation students , including navigating college expectations, academic norms, and help‑seeking behaviorsCollaborate with EOP / SSS staff to monitor progress and promote successful course completionRequired Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesBachelor's degree or be pursuing an undergraduate degree and experience working with students in your respective discipline. Related experience with students or community groups that address issues affecting low‑income and minority populations.
