Epic Instructional Design Specialist / eLearning Developer

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly experienced Epic Instructional Design Specialist / eLearning Developer for a 6-month contract assignment supporting enterprise-wide Epic education and training initiatives. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering engaging Epic education programs that support clinical, operational, and technical staff across the organization.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with Epic systems, instructional design, adult learning methodologies, and eLearning development, along with the ability to translate complex workflows into impactful learning experiences that drive adoption and performance.

This position will work closely with Epic Analysts, operational leaders, subject matter experts, and technical teams to develop innovative learning solutions supporting system implementations, upgrades, workflow optimization, and ongoing staff development.


Key Responsibilities

Instructional Design & eLearning Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain Epic training curriculum, eLearning modules, simulations, job aids, assessments, and supporting educational materials.
  • Create engaging, learner-centered educational experiences utilizing adult learning principles and instructional design best practices.
  • Develop storyboards, scripts, multimedia content, interactive exercises, and simulations.
  • Build and maintain educational content aligned with operational workflows, policies, and procedures.
  • Produce high-quality online learning programs while validating content accuracy and effectiveness.

Epic Education & Training

  • Partner with Epic Analysts and operational stakeholders to understand workflow changes and educational needs.
  • Support Epic upgrades, implementations, optimization initiatives, and system enhancements.
  • Lead educational validation sessions and provide recommendations regarding training impacts.
  • Maintain expertise in assigned Epic applications and training environments.
  • Oversee and support Epic training environments to ensure effective end-user learning experiences.

Learning Management System (LMS) Administration

  • Educate leaders and staff on LMS functionality and best practices.
  • Create training documentation, reports, and dashboards.
  • Monitor LMS performance and identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Support course administration, tracking, reporting, and content management.

Project Leadership & Learning Effectiveness

  • Manage multiple instructional design projects simultaneously.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, milestones, and status reports.
  • Conduct training needs assessments and performance gap analyses.
  • Create knowledge checks, competency assessments, and evaluation tools.
  • Analyze training effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.
  • Utilize learning analytics to measure learner engagement, retention, and organizational impact.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of Epic experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of instructional design and eLearning development experience.
  • Experience developing web-based training and online learning programs.
  • Experience administering and supporting Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Epic Master Training Environment (MST) build experience.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies.
  • Experience conducting training needs analyses and developing learning strategies.
  • Demonstrated project management experience managing multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Epic Certification in one or more Epic modules.
  • Multiple Epic certifications preferred.
  • Instructional Design Certification.
  • Experience with learning analytics and educational measurement.
  • Experience with gamification, virtual reality (VR), xAPI, simulations, and emerging learning technologies.
  • Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred.
