    Overview

    Join Chenega Enterprise Systems and Solutions, LLC, a Chenega Professional Services company, and help support the CDC''s Poxvirus and Rabies Branch (PRB) within the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID). PRB is a global leader in poxvirus and rabies prevention, surveillance, outbreak response, and epidemiologic investigations, providing critical scientific and technical expertise to address emerging infectious disease threats.

    Epidemiologist III is responsible for supporting epidemiologic studies, surveillance systems, data management activities, public health investigations, and scientific communication efforts. The position works closely with multidisciplinary teams, laboratory scientists, epidemiologists, and public health partners to strengthen surveillance systems, improve data quality, advance research initiatives, and support evidence-based public health decision-making.

    Responsibilities

    • Design and support domestic and international surveillance systems, including development and maintenance of databases for human and animal health data.
    • Manage, maintain, and monitor surveillance and research databases, ensuring data quality, completeness, accuracy, and timely entry.
    • Support human records management activities to ensure proper documentation, storage, and accessibility of study and surveillance data.
    • Design, develop, and maintain databases for epidemiologic studies, surveillance systems, and ongoing research projects.
    • Perform data collection, data entry, cleaning, validation, management, and quality assurance activities for surveillance and research datasets.
    • Conduct statistical, epidemiologic, and public health analyses of surveillance, evaluation, and research data.
    • Analyze surveillance data to identify disease cases, clusters, trends, and issues requiring further investigation.
    • Support case-based surveillance activities by collaborating with epidemiology staff and federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and other external partners to enhance national surveillance efforts.
    • Provide technical support for database design, management, and analytical activities associated with epidemiology projects and special investigations.
    • Facilitate collaboration among laboratory, epidemiology, and public health teams by coordinating meetings, maintaining stakeholder communications, and supporting working groups.
    • Coordinate updates and revisions to disease-specific websites and other public-facing information resources.
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs, training materials, and public health communication resources.
    • Prepare and disseminate communications and educational materials for public health professionals through trainings, meetings, and outreach activities.
    • Manage and respond to inquiries from clinicians, public health officials, partners, and the public, ensuring timely and accurate information sharing.
    • Provide support for project planning and administration, including contract package development, cooperative agreement submissions, and milestone tracking.
    • Prepare scientific reports, presentations, manuscripts, and publications, and present findings at professional meetings and national or international conferences.
    • Provide phone-duty support and technical assistance to clinicians, public health professionals, government partners, and members of the public.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
    • 5+ years of experience supporting epidemiologic surveillance, public health research, or infectious disease programs.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Access, Excel, and statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, R, or equivalent analytical tools.
    • Experience with database management, data analysis, and surveillance systems.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including scientific writing and presentation experience.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and external partners.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Experience supporting infectious disease surveillance and outbreak investigations.
    • Familiarity with public health data systems and electronic surveillance platforms.
    • Knowledge of DCIPHER is preferred but not required.
    • Experience preparing peer-reviewed manuscripts, technical reports, and scientific presentations.
    • Performs directed subject matter work.
    • Supports team in producing high-quality deliverable in time efficient manner.
    • Meets with client as needed.
