Come join our Equine team at the world renowned Helen Woodward Animal Center.The Veterinary Assistant will work with horses in a veterinary setting assisting with various equine veterinary medical procedures/tasks. Will admit patients including completing paperwork/deposits, discharge hospital patients following doctor's approval, monitor sick and/or injured horses, communicate findings, maintain accurate medical records on hospitalized patients. In addition, will assist with radiographs, nuclear scintigraphy, lameness exams, surgeries, other procedures, emergencies and triage as needed. Keep horses exercised, groomed, fed, watered and stalls cleaned and ensure that all hospital areas are clean & stocked and follow all disinfecting policies for hospital areas. POSITION REQUIREMENTS FOR VETERINARY ASSISTANT-EQUINE:Must be able to work well without direct supervision, with a team and in high stress situations, be able to work in a continuously changing, multiple doctor hospital environment. Must have excellent prioritizing and problem-solving skills, possess knowledge of equine husbandry and restraint, be able to catch and restrain horses of all types and dispositions and supervise hospital volunteers. Must be able to safely lift and or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to safely lift and or move objects weighing up to 1000 lbs. with assistance.Desire to go to veterinary school and extensive horse experience preferred.
