    Description

    GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

    EQUIPMENT DISPATCHER

    Under general supervision, assigns, routes, and directs the field activities of vehicular equipment and operators, and maintains records in connection with equipment, supplies, and personnel.

    Examples of Duties

    1. Receives orders for construction vehicles and machinery required on public works construction and assigns them to jobs.

    2. Arranges movement of equipment so as to prevent long hauls and unnecessary delays on construction work.

    3. Prepares work schedules of vehicular equipment operators and makes assignments.

    4. Supervises the loading and moving of machinery.

    5. Receives reports on breakdowns and schedules repairs promptly.

    6. Maintains records of movements, locations, assignments, and repairs made on equipment.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school graduation or G.E.D.

    • Two years of experience in the operation of construction machinery and/or motor trucks.

    • One year of experience in the maintenance of such machinery and equipment is preferred.

    Equivalency

    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

    RETIREMENT BENEFITS

    City Employees Retirement System

    As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:

    • Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
    • At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
    • At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
    • In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
    • An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
    • Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
