Title: Equipment Installation Technician (Manufacturing)
Duration:12 Months
Location: Newton, NC

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8-5, Occasional overtime
Travel Requirements: Project locations will range multiple locations within a small locale, from Newton to Hickory, North Carolina.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:40 hrs (overtime periodically expected). Due to the project timing, overtime and off-hours coverage may be necessary to successfully complete workload and keep in-line with project goals.

Description :
Position Summary
  • The Equipment Installation Technician supports engineering projects related to manufacturing capacity additions, line installations, equipment debug, and mechanical readiness for operations receivership.
  • This role supports manufacturing engineering projects during development and execution to ensure timely, error-free mechanical support for multi-line equipment installations.
  • The role also works closely with cross-functional internal and external teams, vendors, and suppliers on a daily basis to resolve technical issues and protect project scope, timing, cost, and overall installation goals by providing and applying mechanical expertise.
  • Applicants must have strong technical knowledge in mechanical engineering, troubleshooting, and design processes to proactively identify root causes, resolve technical issues, and implement robust, industrialized solutions that improve equipment and manufacturing performance.
Primary Purpose
  • Hands-on installation, assembly, and line conversion of manufacturing/automation equipment.
  • Work as part of a team to physically install, build, troubleshoot, and support manufacturing equipment.
  • Responsible for equipment installation rather than overseeing contractors or managing projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain safe work practices, inform others of hazardous conditions or personal practices as expressed on project team
  • Manage installation and debugging activities to meet milestone & timeline objectives for successful capacity additions
  • Design & implement mechanical solutions and process changes to improve capability of manufacturing equipment.
  • Solve mechanical and process issues through data analysis, experience, and collaboration with subject matter experts
  • Manage spare part identification and storeroom entry as recommended by suppliers or peer engineers; noting available spares within (2)-plant footprint
  • Develop and update engineering and operations documentation
  • Support training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery (e.g., pumps, motors, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc.)
  • Align, test, and calibrate mechanical systems after installation
  • Diagnose complex mechanical failures and recommend effective solutions
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to support troubleshooting and repair activities
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety
  • Collaborate with other departments to implement process improvements
Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Associates degree in relevant field (mechanical, technical, engineering)
  • Years/ Area of Experience:
  • At least 5 years' experience in new equipment installations in a manufacturing environment; start-up experience a plus
Equivalent Experience Accepted
  • Candidates without an Associate Degree may be considered if they possess: Strong mechanical expertise.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven automation/equipment installation experience.
  • Deep knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical systems
Additional Certifications
  • Relevant mechanical or industrial certifications (e.g., millwright, or welding) are a plus
  • OSHA or other safety certifications may be required
Required Skills
  • Strong technical fundamentals and mechanical engineering skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and engineering fundamentals.
  • Expertise in mechanical systems such as hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, gear systems, and conveyor systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics
  • Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced project install manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with PC software, including Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and practices in an industrial setting
  • Ability to drill, tap holes, assemble equipment, and perform precision mechanical work.
Blueprint & CAD Drawing Interpretation
  • Ability to read mechanical blueprints and CAD drawings.
  • Must understand how assemblies fit together using technical drawings3.
  • Equipment Installation Experience
  • Experience installing manufacturing, automation, robotics, conveyor, or similar industrial equipment.
  • Strong preference for candidates who have completed full equipment installations from start to finish.
Pneumatic & Hydraulic Systems
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic installation and troubleshooting was specifically discussed.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Automation equipment installation experience.
  • Robotics/manufacturing production line experience.
  • Leadership or lead technician experience.
  • Ability to work with AutoCAD/CAD systems beyond basic drawing interpretation.
  • Experience installing complex industrial machinery.
  • Experience in industrial environments such as automation facilities or advanced warehouses with sophisticated equipment.

  • Ability to work and effectively collaborate within a team
  • Ability to allocate/supervise resources to accomplish aggressive project milestones and timeline within specification and cost
  • Able to shift tasks quickly
