Job Title: Equipment Maintenance Technician

Job Description

This role is a hands-on Equipment Maintenance Technician position focused on keeping a diverse fleet of forklifts and material handling equipment operating safely and reliably across two facilities. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues, coordinate major repairs with external vendors, and maintain detailed records in a CMMS system. As you establish robust maintenance routines and processes, this position offers the opportunity to grow into managing material handling equipment across all company locations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on electric and propane forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems on turret trucks, sit-down forklifts, electric pallet jacks, manual pallet jacks, and occasional scissor lifts.
  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance programs for all material handling equipment, including inspections, lubrication, battery maintenance, tire checks, and fluid services.
  • Build and maintain a routine maintenance schedule and ensure all required preventive maintenance tasks are completed on time.
  • Identify worn or failing components before breakdowns occur and take corrective action to prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Replace common wear parts such as wheels, contactors, switches, hoses, sensors, and related components.
  • Perform minor mast, lift chain, and steering adjustments to keep equipment operating safely and smoothly.
  • Coordinate major or specialized repairs with third-party vendors and develop reliable, long-term relationships with those providers.
  • Source and order parts as needed, manage an inventory of critical components, and ensure parts availability for planned and unplanned work.
  • Use a CMMS platform (MaintainX) to accurately document all work performed, including parts used, time spent, and corrective actions taken.
  • Respond promptly to work orders, prioritize tasks, and manage workload effectively across two facilities.
  • Track preventive maintenance activities and corrective repairs in the CMMS to ensure compliance with schedules and standards.
  • Identify recurring failure trends and communicate findings and recommendations to Facility Managers.
  • Read and interpret service manuals, electrical schematics, and hydraulic diagrams to support troubleshooting and repair activities.
  • Collaborate closely with operations and facility teams to minimize equipment downtime and support production needs.
  • Ensure all work complies with OSHA regulations and company safety standards, including proper lockout/tagout and safe work practices.
  • Maintain organized work areas, tools, and service vehicles, and care for company-provided tools and equipment.
  • Stay current with evolving forklift and material handling technologies, diagnostic tools, and repair techniques.
  • Contribute to building and mentoring a small maintenance team capable of handling routine maintenance and light repairs.
  • Drive a company van between facilities as needed to perform maintenance and repair work.
  • Train on day shift for an initial period and then transition to second shift as required by operational needs.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience as a forklift or industrial equipment mechanic.
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience working on forklifts or material handling equipment.
  • Experience servicing multiple forklift brands such as Toyota, Crown, Hyster, Yale, CAT, Komatsu, and similar manufacturers.
  • Strong experience with turret trucks or a demonstrated ability to learn turret truck systems quickly.
  • Working knowledge of electric and battery-powered lift trucks, including 24V, 36V, and 48V electrical systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated ability to work on hydraulic systems, internal combustion engines (LPG, gasoline, diesel), and electric forklifts (DC and AC motor systems).
  • Electrical and electronic troubleshooting skills, including work with controllers, sensors, wiring harnesses, and contactors.
  • Proficiency using multimeters and diagnostic software for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems; experience with MaintainX is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and diesel systems.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and maintenance repair practices in an industrial environment.
  • Current valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work safely around heavy machinery.
  • Comfort working in warehouse and industrial environments, including bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Safety-focused mindset with a strong commitment to OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Highly organized, self-directed work style with strong documentation discipline.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to manage workload across multiple facilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working on a wide range of forklifts and material handling equipment, including turret trucks, sit-down forklifts, electric pallet jacks, manual pallet jacks, and scissor lifts.
  • Heavy equipment maintenance, industrial maintenance, or mechanical maintenance.
  • Experience with diagnostics and troubleshooting using blueprints, schematics, and industrial documentation.
  • Exposure to automation, robotics, PLC programming, and PLC troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Experience with HVAC, welding, aerospace mechanical systems, or industrial electrical troubleshooting is beneficial.
  • Automotive repair or diesel repair that supports mechanical and engine-related work.
  • OSHA forklift technician training or certification is preferred.
  • Scissor lift or aerial lift certification is a plus.
  • Electrical troubleshooting certification is advantageous.
  • Experience working on Toyota and similar forklift brands is highly valued.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams of two or more within a maintenance and engineering environment.
  • Proactive preventive maintenance mindset with a focus on identifying and addressing issues before failures occur.

Why Work Here?

You will join a rapidly growing organization that invests in its people and equipment, offering the chance to take ownership of a critical maintenance function and shape how it operates across multiple facilities. The company provides a comprehensive benefits package, including 401(k) matching, health, dental, and vision insurance, a health savings account, paid time off, employee discounts, and company-provided tools. You will work in a supportive environment that values safety, continuous improvement, and professional growth, with clear opportunities to expand your responsibilities and grow into a broader equipment management role.

The fleet includes more than 20 turret trucks, over 10 sit-down forklifts, multiple electric and manual pallet jacks, and several scissor lifts, providing exposure to a wide variety of equipment. Work involves frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting, as well as travel between facilities using a company van. You will initially train on a day shift for several months and may transition to a full-time second shift schedule, supporting ongoing production operations across multiple lines in multiple buildings.
