Role Overview
Performs preventive maintenance, inspection, diagnostics, and repair of gasoline, diesel, and alternative-fuel vehicles, heavy and light construction equipment, and other power-driven machinery. The role supports fleet reliability, safety, and operational readiness through troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and equipment service activities. Equipment Mechanic I works under close supervision while developing proficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot vehicles, construction equipment, mobile cranes, and other mechanical equipment.
Estimate repair requirements, labor, materials, and equipment needed for maintenance activities.
Repair and maintain fuel, ignition, electrical, electronic, steering, suspension, cooling, braking, hydraulic, air conditioning, and signaling systems.
Diagnose and repair transmissions, engines, emission control systems, brakes, and drivetrains.
Perform preventive maintenance, lubrication services, tune-ups, tire replacement, and safety inspections.
Read and interpret service manuals, diagrams, specifications, and parts lists.
Rebuild and overhaul engines and major equipment components.
Conduct welding and minor fabrication work as required.
Prepare newly acquired vehicles and equipment for operational service.
Utilize diagnostic tools, power tools, hand tools, and specialized repair equipment.
Support hazardous waste handling, containment, storage, and spill control activities.
Comply with safety regulations, policies, and disaster service worker responsibilities.
