Summary

The Equipment Operator - Classification II is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of medium to heavy construction equipment in support of site development, utility installation, grading, paving, excavation, and related construction activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment in accordance with project requirements and union classification standards. Equipment may include but is not limited to: • Excavators (mid-size to large) • Boom Truck • Milling Machine • Dozers • Motor Graders • Backhoes • Loaders • Track Loader • Concrete Paver • Rubber Tire Backhoe • Asphalt Paver • Plant Engineer • Compactors • Rollers

• Perform fine grading, trenching, backfilling, and material placement.

• Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and project specifications.

• Conduct pre- and post-operational inspections of equipment.

• Identify and report mechanical issues to supervisor or maintenance team.

• Perform minor service and refer major issues to the supervisor and dispatcher.

• Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.

• Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications.

• Knowledge of weight requirements of loads.

• Move materials and objects and operate according to signals from others.

• Adapt to new and different job sites and team members.

• Dig, spread, and level dirt, gravel, or sand.

• Adheres to all safety policies.

• Must wear proper attire at all times, including PPE.

• May be required to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends.

• Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Ability to obtain a DC operators license.
• Must possess a valid, unrestricted drivers license.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to read blueprints and grading plans preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
• Manage emergency situations, work pressure, and stress.
• Ability to complete work projects on time and in an effective manner.
• Demonstrate ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment safely and effectively.
• Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working Conditions

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds continuously throughout the workday.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist throughout the workday.
• Maintain focus and awareness in high-traffic construction environments.
• This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time and the constant use of hands and arms.
• This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (e.g., glasses, contact lenses).
• Performing strenuous work for extended periods in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, and other inclement weather conditions.
• Work may be performed in environments with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel fumes, vapors, dust, grease, and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and moving equipment.

Note

This position is considered Safety-Sensitive and therefore subject to various schedule and unscheduled screenings for controlled substances.
