Equipment Operator I (Veterans Cemetery)

The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating all equipment at the Veteran Cemetery for the interments and the maintenance of the cemetery.

The employee will have the responsibility of:

• Possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license
• Being able to drive and take care of all cemetery equipment
• Installing and realigning headstones
• Assisting at the cemetery shelter to unload and reload caskets and urns
• Transporting caskets and urns to the final resting place and follows the Veterans Administration and Texas Veterans Land Board regulations for burials in the cemetery
• Assisting in all areas of the burial process and maintenance of the Veterans Cemetery

The work environment will require the employee to:

• Regularly work near moving mechanical parts in outdoor conditions
• Exposed to heat, cold, various weather conditions, dirt, and mud
• Work in areas where pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizer are applied
• Frequently move/lift 50 pounds to over 100 pounds
• Exposed to noise levels exceeding 85 dBA for up to eight (8) hours per day

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Graduation from high school or equivalent, and one year of related experience
• A Veteran of any branch of military service; preferred, but not required

Special Requirements:

• Must have a valid Texas driver's license within sixty (60) days of hire
• Must have a valid driver's license by date-of-hire
